OK, I guess I'm a bit of literacy snob, yes, but these things just make me nuts:

1. Guild intros that go on about how everybody has to be literate and use good grammer [sic]. If you don't know how to spell it, don't worry about it, 'K?
2. What's all this nonsense about "semi-literate" guilds? Either you are literate, or you are not literate. It's a bit like being a little bit pregnant, or a little bit dead. You either are, or you aren't.

3. "Literateness" is not, to my knowledge, a word. Literacy is. Use it.

I quite agree, FF.

I also have been thinking about revamping my guild and re-writing the whole introduction page. If I ever have one night or one day free with no other chores or stuff to do, so I have time to think, I will totally revamp the TLS.

Another thing that gets me is when people take offense to things that are totally posted in jest. I see that happening more often in the TLS now for some reason... I've got to figure out how to prevent that from happening again...

The more formal the stement the funnier it is to read that posters must use good "grammer" [sic]. I've come accross several of those in the community forums too. I love reading the posts of self-proclaimed "grammer nazis" [sic].

I don't know what you can do about people taking things said in jest too seriously. Perhaps they are humor-challenged.

There are lots of new people on TLS, and some of them seem somewhat south of literate. I miss the old days. crying

I realize I can be a bit of a snob gonk , but if you are going to be a grammar and spelling snob, it would be very nice if you actually had command of those things. Otherwise, you just make yourself look dumb.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, so feel free to move it. I just have to get this off my chest.

Is it just me, or are people in TLS taking jokes way too seriously? I mean, Gaia is supposed to be fun, but certain people (one in particular), due to their persistant frustration with certain mods, have forced me to make changes that I did not want to have to make. I know that not everyone will get along with all of the guild members, but I don't feel like they need to complain about it. They could either try to deal with the person in question or, if it came down to it, they could quit the guild. That would be sad, but it would prevent me and others from unnecessary frustration. I miss the old days of TLS, too!

Fresnel, I'm sorry for the rant/vent, but do you have any advice for me? I need help!

Not yet ... let me look at some of the threads in question so I can see what's happening. Can you point me, please?

There's the thread about total domination and the thread about clip on ties, and those are basically the only two in question. Burger may have deleted the 2 insulting posts from the tie thread. but I was also receiving PMs from one guild member who said she spoke for the whole guild, even though none of the other guild members have ever brought anything to my attention... everything seems to be smoothed over now though, and Burger wasn't upset that I made him just a regular guild member.

Well, I've read through both of those threads and don't really see what you mean, sorry. If there were problem posts in the clip-on tie thread, I don't see them there now.

Maybe you can PM me and tell me more? I'm feeling a little confuzzed at this point. confused

Sorry the PM was so long, but I needed to explain from the beginning. Hopefully everything is smoothed over by now, and if it's not perhaps we could work together to come up with a solution...

I think semi-literate means something along the lines of:

"I want to run a literate guild, but am inept when it comes to spelling/grammar and I do not have a wide vocabulary, therefore while I claim the guild is literate, I "tolerate" poor grammar and spelling to cover up the fact that I too use have poor spelling and grammar.

Or, "I don't really know good grammar or spelling when I see it, but I don't want a lot of n00bs in here, so maybe that will keep them away"?

Blossom, Burger has filled me in about the circumstances over at TLS. I think it's blown over now, and I think you took the right actions. My suggestion is to just take a wait-and-see approach, and if there are problems again, we'll figure out what to do about them.

That's great. I'm glad we were all able to work together to solve the issue at hand. Thanks again for all your help, Fresnel. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the help Fresnel. Conflict is no fun.

I think your interpretation of "semi-literate" is more accurate than mine.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 30, 2006 6:59 pm

Well, thanks, but I was just guessing about semi-literate. It's like a status thing to frown on n00bs and be all literate, but we were all new here at some point, and you can't be literate just by declaring yourself to be so.

Hopefully TLS will simmer down now. Perhaps we should start "The Drama Guild", in which every little thing becomes a major drama. It would be exhausting to mod, but also somewhat entertaining, in a sick sort of way.

It would be the forum version of reality tv. dramallama

We could require everyone to put a dramallama in his or her post. dramallama dramallama dramallama dramallama dramallama dramallama
