A long time ago, Flip created a thread talking about the creation of a cybernetic complex of sorts. A place used to battle people with various weponds in a non-lethal manner.
I've thought frequently about this, and if things go in the right direction in my life, I want one built in every major city in the united states. If not, the world. Having a new and popular "sport" if you could call it that would draw hundreds of future teenagers to spend their countless dollars taken from parents on these complexes.
This, perhaps could be used as our income?
I'd appreciate it, if flip would post her original full idea here, as I rather liked it, and plan to create it in the future.

Hmm... reminds me of current video games, except on an even more global, connected scale.

That would be awesome. Would it be Duel or MMORPG style? It'd have to be rented by hour, so people don't end up staying in too long and starving themselves. It'd be the next big addiction. I like the idea. But how would we get funding for research, planning, technology, etc?

I like the idea. But how would we get funding for research, planning, technology, etc? It would be duel at first, but when enough cash is gathered, I'd like full scale war. My idea is that you have a set ammount of life points that are deducted with every shock that is dealt to your body. When you run out of life points, a telescopic steel bar extends outward from both of your shoulders, forcing your arms to strech outward, thus signifying that you are dead. I'd like something simliar for the legs so that the person immediatly falls down and has to be removed by a staff of "medics." If you want back in.... 10 bucks. Its going to be like the old days where people would pump countless quarters into an arcade machine to "beat the high score." Corporations. Specifically, whatever video game company is smart enough to buy in. I know I cant do this by myself, which is why I know I can rely on greedy corporations to throw countless dollars into the idea so that they can get advertizing. There may end up being logos all over the outside of my buildings. But I assure you, logos will be absent from the battlefield. Also, I cant stress how IMPORTANT it is that Flip re-post her original idea. It was well thought out, and I'd like to expand on it, so that we can use it.

So it'd be a pay-by-life kind of system? I think that might end up being less than profitable when people start getting good. And they might end up playing til they're no longer physically able, like that kid in scifi novels who immerses himself in VR until he forgets the needs of the flesh in reality. What kind of interface would there be exactly? Something like a bunch of sensors attached to the person, and they actually battle? What's to stop someone from "accidentally" bashing someone's skull in?

What's to stop someone from "accidentally" bashing someone's skull in? Basically. You may be right, and thats somethings I should put more thought into. And thats what waivers are for. The main component would be a shock vest, I'm with sensors connected to all major limbs. If technology allows at the time, what I want to implement more than anything is a VR headset that projects the battle environment but in a futuristic manner. Also, every individual designs their character to their specification so that when people see you on the battlefield, they see your character. (When the helmet is on.) Yes, they actually battle. The thing is, they have foam weponds. But not the crappy foam weapons, weaponss that actually have some weight to them to provide realism. Also, With the helmet on, the foam weponds will appear to be something like light sabers. Foam weapons. If if they get overly violent, they will be auto-slain by a person monitoring the battlefield.

Its war and your talking about removing overly violent people? War is violent, how would you distinguish between someone who is trying to cause unnecessary harm and someone who is very good and can play well, get high scores, exc? Such things must be worked out.

Picture a big boxing glove on a stick. You feel the impact, but not enough to actually hurt you. You must remember what the weponds are made of.

You could probably do this sort of thing for just about anything, not just battling. Personally, I thought of fencing, just cuz... I like fencing. Just not the part when you get hurt. That part not so fun.
Just a thought.

As long as the weapons are foam or virtual, it should be fine. It would be fine to be violent, but not lethal. There could be something like a "eject" button for a victim in the game. And what of people bringing their own weapons into the game? There'd have to be a million security measures.

It is a good idea, it has already been projected and displayed in film. Behold
