Yes, so this thread is for everyone to tell ... everyone else what they write to. I generally write to nice, soft, pretty music. Emotional music helps, too, if I have to write an .... emotional scene. So, tell people what you write to, and how it helps!
I usually write to one of three CDs: MUSIC by Mika Nakashima, F.I.R.'s first album named Fairytale in Reality, and occasionally Josh Groban's second album. I'm also planning on getting F.I.R.'s second album, part of which I heard already through downloading... sweatdrop It really helps, because while quiet helps, sometimes it gets frustrating for me to write without any music or anything in the background especially when I have writer's block. Sometimes I use the moods in the music and write in that mood. It also helps me to calm down and concentrate. If I'm A.D.D., though, I'll listen to non-vocal music, like instrumental tracks from the songs in dramas and such. I like writing while I listen to music, especially if it's a new CD, because the two activities are complementary in my point of view. I can listen and concentrate on the CD and then write at the same time without taking my attention off either. Yep, well, that's my thingy in this thread. Now POST!!

I don't choose the music by what I'm writing I just play what I like to listen to. Lately I've had two different types that are totally different. I've been playing Steven Curtis Chapman (Christian) and Weird Al. As I said very different. I've even used media player to mix them together, though. It helps to break up having the same type for a really long time. There's the serious emotional Christian music and then funny Weird Al.

Mainly I use any music that invokes the mood and style of the writing that I am working on. I would listen to some ambient gothic or gregorian monastery music if I was writing something mages, just as an example. 3nodding As for Steven Curtis Chapman, well his music does have a variety of moods so it would depend on the action occurring in the writing itself.

Metal mostly. Things like Linkin Park, Evanescence, Korn, Manson. But I'm not exclusive. I like some punk, some classic, some country...love Pink Floyd. They're awesome 3nodding And Three Days Grace, they're pretty good...

Some metal is good but I mostly use it for visualising fantasy battles and horror attacks. It all depends on what sort of metal it is. If the music can invoke some sort of mindset within me it allows the brain to conceive of something interesting enough to write.

I am a big Inuyasha fan. I have the soundtracks on my computer and I change the song to fit the scene/mood. It seems to work quite well for me. I change the song when I read as well.

Musicals. At the moment I'm listening to either Wicked, Phantom of the Opera or Jane Eyre. I'm also writing fanfiction for said musicals.. Hmm, could there be a link there...? More seriously. I also listen to yoga music. It's very calming, actually, and helps me get in the zone if I'm having a bit more trouble than usual.

haha... have you watched "The Fantasticks" before? There's so many famous songs from there; El Gallo's "Try to Remember" and the duet between Matt and Luisa called "Soon It's Gonna Rain." My high school did it recently; I played in the pit orchestra. As a result... I now have a crush on the guy who played El Gallo and sang "Abductions (and so forth)" that everyone else calls "The RAPE song" Oh, the irony...(that I will not talk about, thank you very much xp )

*Grins at Parari* I must confess that I haven't watched that.
Other music; I listen to Fushigi Yuugi music because it's pretty (and I was obsessed with it for the longest time). It's funny; I listen to angsty music while I write fluff or comedy, and vice versa.

I have new music to suggest to listen to, if you want to be in a good mood: Spamalot. Though you may just end up listening than actually writing... Heh.

I actually like Yu Watase's other works better; the shorter, the better. Imadoki? That was a cute manga ^__^ I heard that the ending for Ceres sucks...

I only read volume 1 of Ceres. It never did much for me, honestly. Though I tend to love long, drawn out stories. Only problem is buying/keeping track of them. Not only with Manga, but novels too.

My music is perfectly balanced now since I got three more Christian CDs. Two are Jaci Velasquez and the other one is Rebecca St. James. Now I have four Christian CDs and four Weird Al Cds.

I like to listen to Linkin Park sometimes, but I can't listen to music while I read fanfiction; I get distracted.
Definitely depends on what I'm trying to write. Sometimes, I can't listen to anything, other times I have to listen to SOMETHING. I mostly just use my playlists in WMP, which really helps because I like an EXTREMELY wide range of music. From almost hardcore metal to classical, with some rap and Christian music in there as well. Totally opposite ends of any spectrum.
If anyone cares, right now I'm listening to the Jay-Z and Linkin Park CD Collision Course, Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer. I love it. mrgreen

I usually listen to instrumental music from a playlist that I have compiled as a soundtrack to one of my stories. I also listen to emotional music such as Sarah McLachlan and Enya. Soundtracks from movies are also great motivators since they come in very eclectic mixes (such as Gladiator, Troy, Braveheart, etc.)
