My girlfriend and I have been wondering for the longest time about Anne Bishop's religion. In one of the books, she thanks "the coven," and it is apparent in her works that the fantastical magic and mysticism has borrowed some elements from Neo-Pagan and classic celtic/pagan religions. This is apparent in the BJT, Tir Alainn trilogy, Sebastian, and other books/short stories she has written.
So, *ahem*. Questions are: -Do you think Anne Bishop's religion influences her work? -What religion do you think she is? -Do you recognize anything in the books that may have come from a certain religion?

- mabey but it's not apparent... - no ideadon't care - Most fantasy authors gather inspiration from greek, celtic, norse, irish, pegan, and roman... it gives them more of a basis for arcane rites.

In my opinion, I don't think that you could tell an Author's religion through their works. I mean, it's like saying that an Author believes in unicorns because all his/her writings revolve around unicorns. Me, I am a Christian and I'm currently writing a book about God being a 12 year old porterican[SP?] girl, who falls in love with a Athiest who grew big black wings and is thrown into all this religion and s**t.
Haha, if a rabid religion-obsessed Christian EVER read that, they would call it blasphamy. =p

Daughter or Heir... one of the two, none of which I have handy due to my moving out with only a fraction of my belongings... Anne Bishop thanks some sort of coven--at least that's what I recall. I would need to double-check. I'm leaning towards Anne being some kind of Neo-Pagan.

most fantasy is written in a paganist fashion but lot of fantasy writers are christian... JRR Tolkein was a devout Roman Catholic but look at Lord of the Rings...

CS Lewis was heavy Christian too; just look at The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
I think everything in writing has some degree of religion in it, but that's just me

*ignores the pink nusance*
I agree in some aspects thoes who belevie in a monotheistic religion often have a greater power in their works but if they also write fantasy [Fantasy=Magic:SciFi=Anvanced Science] they include magic and it's always easier to review ancient tale and stories of magic like the mythologies of old, which draw their beginnings from old religions many of which were paganistic.
