Some constellations are just hard to find because they are made up of dimmer stars, like Aquarius or Pisces. Others are easier because of the way the stars are grouped, like the "W" in Cassiopeia or the "U" of Corona Borealis. Just try to remember what shape the stars are in, or if they are next to other constellations that you do remember.

If you want to remember all the names of the stars though, I don't have any tips. I can't remember them all either. sweatdrop

It's very hard to remember all 88 constellations, and also rather useless as well, unless you are travelling between the north and south hemispheres often.

My advice? Learn the brightest and easiest to see for winter and summer. That's all I know. And whenever it is dark and you are outside try to find them. Start off with a star chart each time so that you can use that to help you find them and as you find them more and more it just becomes ingraned into your memory. Like studying for a test. blaugh

There's nothing too it other then just looking for them over and over.

Years ago I suffered this same problem. Take my advice.

First, about 100.00 USD will get you a tool that is infinitely valuable to you. A A laser, available from Orion. I purchased one and within two weeks I had found and committed to memory nearly every constellation available in the summer skies. The price is hefty, but trust me, the item is very well constructed, and worth your money. You'll get years of use out of it.

If you can find the Big Dipper, then you can also find The Little Dipper.

Something else you can use to help is the free program Stellarium. It works on most major OS, and is a fantastic piece of software for beginners.

After you've spent a few weeks learning the Constellations, I'd suggest following Sirius Stargazing on Youtube. (His series on naked eye astronomy is fantastic.
