Deep in the heart of Magus there is an old sage. He wrote down the lore of the creatures in his book before he died. His lore wasn't very accurate, but it was the only copy the world had. May creatures have gone to great lengths to read the sacred book. The last queen of Magus had made the book available for everyone's viewing.
((This is a marker for the lore. I will improve it as things go on.))

The Elves The elves are the eldest of the known surviving races. They have different personalities depending on the environment they grew up in. Some elves are mischievous pranksters and are considered more like their cousins, the fairies, than true elves. The fairies are often known for their countless pranks on humans, but they are less seen than elves. They look for the most part like tiny elves with wings. The other type of elf is the more commonly seen and is majestic and solemn. This is what other races think of when they envision the elves. Sometimes these elves are seen as snobs that think that they are superior to everyone. All elves learn basic magics at an early age. They are trained mostly in summoning, healing, and some elemental magics. Some elves pursue these magics as a profession. Other common elven jobs include minstrels and scholars. Very few elves take up a sword though some of the higher-class boys are trained in basic fencing. Elves are called semi immortals. They will live forever if permitted. They cannot die of disease, but they can die in battle. The elves age like humans until they reach about 20. After this age, their body clock slows down and it takes longer for them to age the human equivalent of a year.

Humans The humans are considered the youngest race of all. They are spreading while other creatures are slowly becoming extinct. Not all humans contain magic. If they possess any, they have to train very hard to use it. Most human magic comes from objects or from having some blood of the elves or some other magical creature in their veins. Magic can also come from being bound to a creature of Higher Magic such as a demon. Human mages are very few, but are considered equal among the elven magic-users. Humans rarely have a single profession like other races. They are very variable and often switch jobs. In some places, humans rule over the magical creatures, but some places have found ways to live side by side. The Black Knights The Black Knights belong under the lore of the humans because of the very close ties with the race. The Black Knights were a group of people from all races that defended their towns and countries from evil. The Black Knights were an elusive bunch of people and there was no way to pick them out from the crowd. This was because they were not knights in a normal sense. The word was sarcastic. The Knights were composed of people who had been rejected from knighthood or would have never been accepted. The Knights were very nondiscriminatory against who joined. Many Knights were actually thieves and spies. There were also some rogues and women in the group. Race was also a non issue for membership. There were actually some real knights in the group that aided with funding and training. The Knights usually met in underground caverns beneath taverns. There were also some entrances to the caverns in sponsors' stores. The order was supposedly founded by female elven blacksmith or tavern owner named Niccea. Her profession really depends on the story that is being told. One of the less popular stories features her as a mercenary. Even if she wasn't the founder of the Knights, she was a skilled leader of her band. The stories with her as a blacksmith tell of an entrance to the caverns through one of her kilns. It is unknown if any such person had actually existed because of the inconsistency. It could be that the name Niccea was given to any strong female leader of the Knights. The Black Knights were disbanded after the last war over a hundred years ago. It is unknown if any of them still actually exist. They were said to have a special way to identify one of their own kind.

The Undead The undead are arguably the most varied race. Vampires fall into this section of creatures do to their type of immortality. Unlike the elves, they can't be killed unless their deaths happen a certain way. Vampires Vampires are known by their pale skin, sharp canine teeth, and unquenchable thirst for blood. The unfortunate thing about them is that they most resemble humans. Many humans have been tried as vampires because they can also have pale skin and unnaturally sharp teeth. The main tester for a vampire is that they will die if a wooden stake is driven through their hearts. Unfortunately, anything can die if a stake is driven through its heart short of a true immortal. Vampires, unlike elves, rarely have accepted jobs in human society. Their thirst for blood often gets them into trouble in larger cities. Some vampires have learned to cope and blend in, but others see humans as and inferior race meant only as a food source. Vampires that blend into civilized society more often than not become mercenaries, assassins, and other unsavory characters. Vampires have one thing over the humans though, they have the ability to fly, which for some reason is on the Top 5 List of humans wants. They are also closely related to bats, which often serve as their messengers. Vampires are also known for their close family ties and punish those who dishonor their family. There is supposedly another rare breed of vampires that feed of of human emotions rather than blood, but their race is even more secretive and only stories are heard of them. They supposedly blend in the human race better. Zombies The other types of the undead are more commonly called zombies. They are usually called up from their graves by demons and powerful dark mages. Zombies are considerably easier to kill than vampires due to their severe allergy to holy type magic. But, they dont feel pain, which makes them terrific fighters if their enemy doesn't know how to face them in combat.

Alereans The Alereans were the greatest race on Galen. They were technologically superior to humans, but shared their knowledge. Some unknown force killed them all off tens of thousands years ago. All they left behind were dead ruins with inoperable machinery. How they powered these machines is unknown. Many humans aspire to copy the Alereans' flying technology, but to no avail. Historians are still trying to unravel the mystery behind these long dead creatures.

Half-Humans
This is a very strange category because the occupants aren’t really human at all. They are a mix between humans and animals, but no one really believes that they appeared because human’s mated with animals. There is a fascinating array of these creatures and too many to really name in this volume. There are the half-horses called centaurs. They are usually known to live in the woods. They are said to favor archery like elves. There are also half-birds. These are either called Garuda or Harpies. The difference lies in their disposition. The Garuda are the more civilized of the two races and look more like men with wings than birds with human heads. Garuda live their first 20 years as humans, but when they turn 20, wings sprout from their back. They also have talons on their hands and feet. Two very well known half humans are werewolves and merfolk. The word werewolf comes from an ancient from of our language and is translated to say man-wolf. There are numerous varieties of werewolves and all with their own weaknesses. Some of them are deemed civilized enough to live among the rest of us, but most stick to themselves. There is not much known about the people of the mer because they live underwater. They are said to be men with fish tails. In my long life I have never seen one, but I have heard stories from the relatives of the Wood Elves, the Aquatic Elves. There are possible many other half-human races, but only someone who can travel to all corners of the globe would be able to know.

Elder Races The Elders are people who have lived on this world long before the rest of us. There is quite a bit of lore on them, but there is no way of finding out what is fact and what is fancy. The Chorus The Chorus is not really a race that has ever appeared on Galen. The Chorus really isn’t a race at all. The Chorus supposedly created the world, but rather they still watch is a matter of opinion. An old translation of the name is The Chorus of Angels, but most scholars of the old lore stick with the term Chorus. Chaos Chaos is the antithesis of the Chorus. It is termed to be evil. Like the Chorus, not much is known. Chaos is blamed for all the wrongs of the world. Angels Angels are the guardians of the Chorus. It is said that they look like Garuda or the Garuda look like them. They are obviously not related. The Angels may look related to birds, but they have no bird like tendencies at all. Evil Angels are termed as Fallen Demons Demons come from the Chaos. They are not necessarily evil, but many are. They act on behalf of the Chaos and with the Fallen. In the ancient lore, Demons have been generally more accepted than Fallen. The Fallen are traitors, but the demons act on their instincts. Demons range from low level to high level. The most dangerous are the high level because they are sentient enough to bend in with humans. Ancients Supposedly, Ancients were the decedents of the Chorus as well. Unlike the Angels, who live with in the Chorus, the Ancients had a population on Galen eons ago. They are said to be the ancestors of the Great Alereans, but many people claimed that the Alereans were really humans that through selective breeding caused their own race. This opinion generally isn’t very popular or well known. It is generally assumed that the Alereans descended from the Ancients and therefore the Chorus. The Ancients left Galen. It is unknown rather they died or not. It is quite possible that they still have colonies somewhere on Galen. Mystics Less is known about the Mystics than all the other Elder races. They are said to be dead Ancients and transcend through both Chorus and Chaos. They are a rare race and there has only been one reported existence of one.

Another View on the Ancients There is another view on the history of the Ancients. It is unknown rather it is the true history or not. Only the Chorus knows the truth. The Chorus originally populated Galen with just one race. This race never got sick and lived forever. Eons upon eons ago, a seer got a glimpse into the future and saw evil on the ground. The greatest minds of the First Race banded together to come up with a solution. It was a simple one. If evil is going to flood the ground, get off it. The great scientists built citadels that could fly high in the sky, but before there was enough for the whole race to rise to the sky, the evil day came. Chaos made a poison cloud that covered the ground. It separated the people in the cities from their brothers on the ground. The cloud stayed over Galen for a hundred years, but the people in the flying cities didn’t risk coming down for another fifty. When they got back to the ground, they found it a changed place. The families that they had left behind had died. The poison cloud killed indirectly. Those that breathed it became mortal. The people that they had left behind had died over a hundred years ago, but they left a continuation of the line. The First Race decided that now they were two different races. The people who escaped to the flying cities were called Ancients, and the people that succeeded the families on the ground were called Groundlings. For a while, the two races lived in relative peace, but discord soon broke out. The people were changing. They found out they were no longer two races, but many races. The Ancients gave birth to immortal creatures including Angels and Demons. The Angels and the Demons were continually at war until the Chorus called the Angels back and made them its guardians. The Groundlings decided that they thought their name was very prejudice and most began to call themselves Humans. People who were born of a union of the two races made the most numerous divisions. These people were immortals with limits. The most well known division was of the people with the pointed ears. They declared themselves Fair Folk and later divided into Fae and Elves. There was really no war with this division of races, but it caused all the races to mistrust each other, as they still do today.
