Step 1: Start by drawing a simple oval. Towards the bottom of the oval draw a little plus sign or X or whatever you prefer. This is just to mark our place for the fingers.

Step 2: Draw five lines out from our the marker. The middle finger should be just short of an oval's length long and the others are sized around it. You can refer to the picture for help.

Step 3: Start fleshing out the hand by drawing simple curved and straight lines around the outside of the guidelines for the fingers.

Step 4: Begin drawing in the details. Each finger has three knuckles. One at the point where they connect to the hand and two on the finger itself. Make sure you indent a little bit where the upper two knuckles would be and put curved lines on the fingers to show the point where they bend. The thumb has three knuckles but two of them are hidden in the hand so make sure you only draw one. Also, don't forget to add the details of the palm.

TIP: If you need help knowing where to draw the details you can use your own hand as a reference model. Also, the positions of the knuckles are positioned in an arc (as Opa-sama reminded me), the thumb and pinky having the lowest and the middle finger having the highest.
Step 5: Now you clean up your sketch. Erase all of the guidelines and fix up the widths of the fingers a bit. Voila, you have a hand! I hope this tutorial helped someone because it certainly helped me.
