The first post of a ranch is usually an introduction. You introduce yourself, give a description of your ranch, and any other RP-relevant things there.
Example
On the western lawn of Kirntaur Care Central is a well-kept building and a large, fenced in pasture. You can see many, many Kirns grazing, and a few Kirnguards slinking about, keeping the peace. Mecka Ros, the Kirntaur Care Central founder, perches on the fence, leaning in to pet a Kirn. LabTech311 himself frequently visits this ranch. Luckily for you, it is open to all visiters and fellow Kirn breeders.Hello, and welcome to the Rosey Kirntaur Ranch. As the creator and proprietor of Kirntaurs, I have the ability to make new Kirns whenever I want. Which is awesome, to say the least. In time, there will be a very large flock here. But don't be intimidated, almost all my adult Kirns are available for breeding. Just send me a PM and I'll consider getting your Kirn and my Kirn together.
I think this is all pretty straightforward. You can pretty much put whatever you want here.
You'll probably want to use your second post to lay down some ranch policies. This would include how you split up breeding fees, whether you prefer one colorist over another, whether to post or PM breeding requests, etc. To give you an idea of what kinds of things you might want to specify, here's my ranch's policies.
Example
Ranch Policies:
-All offers to breed are PMed to me. Do NOT post in this thread.
-I will always hire another colorist to do my breedings, because my own coloring is average at best.
-Because I always hire other colorists, I will be paying their fees.
-We split breeding costs 50/50.
-Unless there is a baby I really, REALLY want from a breeding, you get first pick of the litter.
-I will not breed a Kirn with another Kirn who had previously bred with the first Kirn's parent.
-No incest.
-If I come to your ranch offering to breed, do not feel that you have to accept because I'm t3h Kirnmaster. When it comes to breedings I have no more authority than you.
-If, after both parties choose which Kirn babies they will get from a breeding, I have more than one, someone who does not own a Kirn or Kirnguard can ask for one of the babies.
All posts after these two will be Kirn profiles. You provide your Kirn's picture, a description of the Kirn (personality, RP info, how you got it, etc.), and a few lists.
First, I highly suggest keeping track of family trees. That way, you know you're not inbreeding Kirns. If you RP a lot, it also helps to know if your Kirn just met up with its brother or cousin or what have you.
Another thing I like to do is set up a 'Desired Mates' list. I go through the owner's list, and look at all the breeding-capable Kirns. I choose which ones have colors and patterns that would look good passed down to children. For example, if I have a blue Kirn, I'll probably be looking for other blue Kirns, or maybe some green or purple ones. Breeding it with an orange Kirn might create babies with coats that I don't like. However, the babies' coats depend on the colorist, so it's still a gamble.
An example will be up soon.
Remember, put the tag [RAN] in the title of the thread, and one of the crew will find it and put your ranch in the directory. The Ranch Directory can be found
