I've always wondered...why is it always driven into women that in order to be successful, you must be pretty, thin, intelligent, and popular, while few women actually obtain this stature? I mean, just turn on the television or open a popular magazine and you will see stick thing, beautiful, makeup coated girls. While yes, I know, most men are attracted to skinnier girls, that doesn't mean that the media and society should be drilling it into girls heads that they should be skinny. Why do you think that only about, according to Wikipedia, 90% of anorexics are female? I believe the answer is the fact that many women, in order to feel good about themselves, have a desire to be skinny. The media is pumping into our heads the idea that skinny and beautiful=successful. While I know they're only stupid television shows, and some even cartoons, why do most of the television series relationships why is the woman also so pretty and skinny? So anyway, to wrap it all up, I was wondering what everyone here thought. Is the fact that pretty/skinny=successful driven into the teenage population nowadays, or am I just going crazy? Or maybe it's been around forever and I just haven't noticed..lol.

It seems the media obviously spotlights pretty / skinny sucessful women. It's ridiculous. If a woman does something amazing, instead of her sucess being looked at first, her appearance will be looked at first.
Dunno where I'm going. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Just woke up. >__<

Lol, no problem. It seems like you started to say something, got through a little of it, and just stopped. You can continue it if you want, or leave it as is. ^_^

Well, being thin is healthy. I don't mean being underweight type thin, but not being overweight.
Also, the reason that models happen to be the tall, slender body type is because the people at the fashion shows and such do not care about the model. They don't go to see the model, they go to see the clothes. The clothing fits on women of that body type in a way like it does on a hanger. You see the clothing without being distracted by a voluptuous body.
It's interesting how in other cultures, like Africa, being more filled out is attractive and desirable.

Because the world is run by men, and they don't like fat and/or ugly women, and they certainly don't want anyone fat and/or ugly running any kind of success.

vegan_chica It's interesting how in other cultures, like Africa, being more filled out is attractive and desirable. I think part of that has to do with how poor Africa is. In poor countries, being heavier means that you have enough money to be eating enough and to not be working hard physically all day. In wealthier places, we just think fat people are lazy. sweatdrop

The whole world isn't though, just the governmental part that everyone seems to care so much about, with it's promises of freedom which are never fully granted.

VisasMarr The three major systems that govern our reality are run by men. 1] The government. 2] The Judiciary. 3] The economy (capitalism) Technically speaking, depending on what your reality is, and what you define reality as. Just me, I believe that no one can overall rule me except myself, the government is just the group that sets the base limits. Though I do believe that there should be more women in the government, just for better representation and oerall equality.

I guess because the first thing that catches most people's eyes is how you look on the outside....
