One of the major debates I've been reading about is what was the first metal album was. Most say that it was Paranoid. I personally say that Black Sabbath was the first metal album. It's hard to deny songs like Black Sabbath, N.I.B, The Wizard, and Wicked World the title metal. What are your opinions???

I'm not sure, I'd probably agree with you, though.

Definately the album, Black Sabbath!

I'll say Black Sabbath. It created the sound, the general darkness of stereotypical (though Sabbath was completely unique and original back in 1970 when they made this stuff, I'm not calling them stereotypical since... well, the stereotypes didn't exist until they did) metal lyrics, etc. Also, to me Black Sabbath and Paranoid don't sound that fundamentally different... they're both heavy, doomy, relatively angry, and fall into the same category of love for me, though I like the former a bit more. The songs on each are completely original and amazing, of course, just the general feel of it is similar.

I love Led-Zeppelin to death, I own several albums, listen to them regularly, have a poster on my wall and a t-shirt in my closet with their name on it but I don't really consider them metal. Especially not Zeppelin 1, it's an amazing album as is Zeppelin 2 but neither are all that heavy or sound like the sound Sabbath created. I don't really consider them metal, more of a genre unto themselves.

I've heard some people call the first metal song Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, and I see where this can come from as far as early metal goes, but that's not by any means a metal album.

The first album that I know of that I got was probably machine head by Deep Purple.

"Black Sabbath" is the first metal album that is a fact not an opinion.

Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are not metal, they are good bands but are not metal.

I've heard people say that in da garden of eda was the first metal song ever. But I beleive the first metal song ever wrote was wicked world, simply because I beleive sabbath wrote it while they were still called earth.

It's definitely Black Sabbath.... Black Sabbath (the song) is the first metal song ever.....simple (I mean it's only 3 different chords) it's still metal

Black Sabbath most definately. Parinoid was more of a refinement of what they did on Black Sabbath. I'm just glad none of those arguments about Blue Cheer being the first metal band came up. . .

Black Sabbath of course, what else could it be?

i must say black sabbath. i agree that zeppelin had some metal-ish stuff, but sabbath actually had a full album of it

Well Led Zeppelin had more blues influenced stuff than Sabbath imo. But Bonham's drumming beats Ward's to be honest.

Black Sabbath hands down, theirs a reason Ozzy is the Father of Metal, or at least so they say. They revolutionized it and created it from nothing.
