This is where you can make ideas about what thread you want made if you don't have enough information or knowledge to create the thread yourself. There will be a list of all the ideas on this first page. That way anyone can easily look at the topics that people want to discuss and start one. If you do post a thread pertaining to something on the list, please make a post so it can be crossed out.

Please check out other subforums, especially the Archived Subforum, before you make a new thread, to avoid possible duplication.

List
Education - Mia~Mad~Hatter
Artificial Intelligence as a government - Deo_Machina

*The name of the person who suggested each idea is next to that idea that they suggested, so that they could be contacted in the event that any questions may arise.

We had a request to make an Education Subforum.

This would be not be necessary (or even appropriate) until we have more discussion on the topic, but I thought I'd through it out there.

I thought about making a thread about using AI as a government.
If we could really make a computer capable, I think it might be a great idea.

(Yeah, I more or less got this from Isaac Asimov.)

You're going to need to explain that one to me. Artificial intellegence is a technology. Even if it exested, how would it be better that you or I?

Computers think much faster, and can also run scenario checks to determine the most likely outcome of a situation.

Also a computer could not be corrupted, and would not change descisions for personal gain.

Because computers cannot get viruses or be hacked into, and technicians doing maintenance couldn't possibly do any damage to them.

Yes, that could be a good discussion.

Keep many security guards everywhere.
And about getting hacked? It's not going to have an input device like a keyboard, you'd have to plug in a seperate console inside a high-security area. And it's software will have not been made for humans to use, making it even harder to hack in.

Finally, how are you going to hack in anyway? The internet? It doesn't need to be connected. We could just set up "ferries" between the AI and other computers so it could be fed information.

I'll put in on the list.
I was serious when I said that it could be a good discussion.

It's Ok, I often don't make myself clear enough.

If you have any resources to back up your view, we can work on getting a thread started to discuss this issue.

Well, the basis of this came from a series of Isaac Asimov stories.

In quite a few of them the computer Multivac is mentioned.

First it was used to predict the outcome of votes (So every election only a few people would vote), but later predicts all manner of crimes, and develops new technologies for people.

I thought of an AI government after thinking up this:

Organics < Machines (Currently this is incorrect, but in theroy it's true.)

Organics < Machines (Currently this is incorrect, but in theory it's true.)
If Biotechnology research was as open as computer research, this would be a different matter.

I don't think it is important to discuss whether Bio or mechanical intelligence is better, but what is important is whether 'normal' humans should run the world, or whether a super-capable, man-made, thing should rule us.
