Do you think that a animal should be killed if it is at a shelter too long? In some shelters if a animal is there for more than a week they put the poor creature to sleep. What if a owner was on vacation and the animal got out some how? Then there animal could be gone when they get back!

Yes i understand that the shelter needs room for more animals but still! They shouldn’t just put the animal to sleep, they could always give it away, many people want animals they just cant afford the prices to buy them from the shelters.

so what do you think? do you think animals should be killed out at a animal shelter just because they have been there a week?

No way!

I dont see a point really in charging to give a pet from the shelter. If they need space for more animals, why cant they just give ones that have been disowned to people that want them?

Instead of spending the money they earn from selling the pets, they should buy additions to the shelters to fit more.

I would love to see that happen but the money they charge to have animals taken home or retrieved is the money they use to pay rent or for food to take care of all the animals.

I will have to agree with ya guys. But I have ideals, so I will not fully agree with you both. Expenditures *Money* plays a huge role when it comes to taking care of pets. You need money for food, shelter, and security for the dogs.

The government is the one that is calling all the shots.

sure it costs money to raise and feed pets at these shelters but wouldnt it also cost money to put them to sleep? why not just give them away to a person that really wants a pet. i'm sure there are tons of ppl out there that would like to become pet owners. hell, i'm one of those ppl. i think it's ridiculous to put an animal to sleep after they've been in a shelter for an X amount of time when there are so many ppl out there that would love to have a pet.

I agree but most shelters dont really care. and either way it is cheaper for the shelters to put the poor creatures to sleep then for them to feed them day after day.

PETA and the Humane Society?ASPCA specialize in killing strays and neutering animals.

because this does not truly seem very kind to the animals, some new groups are springing up which pledge to care for the strays as long as thy live or until they are placed.

our local "save a stray" is like this, and gets a good amount of local support.

which is great cheesiejo but some of the less known ones that are jsut around diffrent areas dont give that pledge.

I dont think it is right at all. They should not kill the poor pet if someone does not come for it in just a week or two. I love pets(especially dogs and puppies^_^) and it just makes me sad to think that they even consider doing this stuff to them.
Now if the pet is very old and is on its last leg then it would be acceptable to put it to rest to ease the pain(even though that is still kind of bad).
But other than that I think that they should wait for someone to pick the pet up.
Like whisper said people go places and are not always home and pets do run away. How would anyone feel if they went on a vacation and came back there pet was no where to be found then you find out the poor thing was put to rest. All though they might try to contact you but still.

Never, its cruel! They should work harder to advertise their pets to give away, heck go to a mall or walmart, or something and have a big dog giveaway. Even the carbourd box trick might work.

I agree with saix about how animals can be put to sleep if thy are on their last leg. I mean my mom's cat a lnog time ago played with some thread and it got all tangled up in her itnestines and around the back of her throat so she couldnt swallow or drink. They ended up putting her down after a month after the opetration because it was so hard for her.

well if their going to die, and their in great pain, it sorta jusst put them out of their misery. I would now. Ive had two cats die on me in one month.... cry Still makes me said when I hthink of em.

that is the only reason. but actually i dont see the reason to kill animals off at the animal shelter.

there should be more publicity about the numbres of animals these major organizations do put down every year.

the public are given the perception that "rescue" is going on when it isn't.

it's more like a combination of animal eugenics and population management.

if they cant take care of the animal give it away to an owner that would love the pet, or if they can give it to a day care or something so it can play with the children.
