Announcements Calling all Cosplayers! We have a new event planned in which we need Cosplayers to Volunteer. This will be fun and big. So if you have a REALLY good costume please contact Mike at eo@chibipa.com. What we are doing is a live action rendition of "Where in the world is Carmen Sandeigo". Ok So we are calling it "Where in Chibi-Pa is Carmen Sandeigo". What we are looking for is villians or psuedo bad guys. You know the people who are confused for bad guys till the end of a series. Tekkie will tell you more about what your role is. What you need to do is have a picture of yourself in Costume. That way we can judge who would be best to use. We will need to get this organized around the end of August. So if your making a costume it has to be finished by then.

About Chibi-Pa
Chibi-Pa is a Japanese Animation Festival held in West Palm Beach, Florida. Chibi means "small" or "little" and Pa is a Japanese abbreviation for "party". Of course I was informed that pa in Japanese could be an abreviation for the word Baka (which means moron, stupid or idiot)... don't ask me how.... So take it as you wish. We are either having a Little Party or we are Little Idiots. Chibi-Pa is a fun way for fans of the Japanese culture and pop culture to gather and meet. This is our second year and we hope that everyone has as much fun as they did last year.

Cosplay Events
Current Cosplay Events:
Currently we only have a couple of events we plan on doing this year. We are willing to listen to any person willing to organize other events. The Events listed for the time being is just events that the Organizers of Chibi-Pa plan on hosting. And for the most part they are continuations of events that we had last year.
1. Cosplay Tri-Athalon 2. Chibi-Pa's Cosplay Improv Contest 3. Super Deformed Baseball
Costume Contest
The number of contestant slots is limited!
If you've made a costume you'd like to present on the stage you should sign up as soon as possible. To be accepted as a contestant you must submit an entry form and meet the criteria set forth in the rules. While you may register at the convention itself, requesting a contestant spot early is strongly recommended!
No purchased or otherwise commercially obtained costumes are allowed!
We ask that you keep the costumes anime/manga themed. No original characters will be accepted. Video Game character will only be accepted if they are also from an anime (ex. Advent Children)
Trophies & Awards: A panel of guest judges, prizes categories of Best In Show, Judges' Choice, Best Group, and Best Young Fan.
1) Reference materials are required. They must be submitted to the cosplay coordinator before the beginning of the contest. No reference materials, no participating. Keep in mind that not all of the judges know the character, so please make sure that your materials show of the version of the costume you are portraying.
2) Costumes must be of original construction, or show significant modification of pre-existing materials. No costumes are allowed that are purchased or otherwise obtained from a commercial source. It is expected that some costumes may include as minor elements some purchased items. If your entry utilizes many of these, check with the Cosplay Coordinator for approval. This is a show of creativity and craftsmanship, not shopping ability. Costumes entered in our previous shows may not return.
3) No liquids, messy substances, food, or anything that may pose a danger is allowed on stage.
4) Unsheathing of bladed weapons is not allowed!!! Violating these rules will disqualify you, and possibly result in escort off the premises. Due to safety concerns, minors may not perform combat simulations.
5) Nothing is allowed that would be prohibited in a "PG-13"-rated movie. This includes, but is not limited to: nudity, or implied nudity; “slash” actions; implied substance abuse; etc. If you wouldn’t do it in front of mom, grandma, and a whole bunch of important people, you probably shouldn’t do it at Chibi-Pa.
5) Category definitions: Cosplay: A costume copied from a pre-existing design, such as from a movie, comic book, famous artwork, etc. Young Fan: Age 8 to 14. For safety reasons, children under age 8 are not allowed. A Young Fan must have a parent or guardian present with them backstage, and minors' parents will be asked to sign a permission form.
6) A costume that has previously won Best In Show or Best In Master Class at any convention is not eligible. You’ve won your prize, no matter how great your costume may be. Let other people have their chances.
7) Contestants agree to show up no later than 11:45am, and to allow video recording and photography of their costumes for non-profit purposes.
cool The Coordinator may reject an entry on the basis of inappropriate or unsafe behavior or content, because of too many purchased items, or because the event has reached its limit for entries.
9) If your costume is worn on stage by someone other than the maker, the maker must be given credit for the costume. Even mom’s need shout-outs.
For more information and for the early entry form please go to our website!
About the events planned so far:
Cosplay Tri-Athalon This is a series of three events. What events you ask? Too bad. I ain't tellin. Plus if this year is a repeat of last year it will be what ever Lynn can bring to me at the last moment. But its a winner takes all for a good prize.
Chibi-Pa's Cosplay Improv Ah yes. This will seperate the men from the boys. And evidentally make a pregnant woman out of a evil villian. Cosplayers get on stage and do what they are told. And the cosplayer who can stay in character and do the best... wins. Wee that was fun. I loved last year. Lots of people loved last years event. Ok so we pissed off some cosplayers. But its all in good fun.
Super Deformed BaseBall The idea is two teams of cosplayers get out on a field and play baseball with a 2 foot wide base ball. Its only going to be 3 or 4 innings. No mitts required. Just a lot of energy.

Guest of Honor
Steve Bennett
A lot of you younguns may not know this but Steve Bennett has been around for a while. He was a founding member of Studio Iron Cat. Which even then you may not know. SIC fell apart in 2004 when his partner screwed him over. But for years SIC provided us with manga and I think videos. They were around before TokyoPop. If you hang around him enough he will claim to have been the start of the Crosplay scene. Which is a very funny story. But he's worked in Japan. And is using his new found free time to produce an online comic about his mis-adventures as a con hopper. Find out more at www.stevebennettart.com.
Demented Dragon
Exactly what they are planning we are not sure. We know the plan on doing a couple of lectures on things like getting published and the such. They also plan on doing a press release about their upcoming titles to be released in the spring. Also they plan on trying to get some of their artists to attend. One of which used to work for Sanrio (Hello Kitty Japan). So this is all exciting.

It would take an obscure, hurricane- strength phenomena, to keep me from attending Chibi- Pa '06. It's a good thing that hurricane season's about to end then, right? ^.~
