Hi everyone! I just have a question about the fine tuners.
Ive noticed my E fine tuner is loose and was just wondering what I can do to tighten it? Should I take it to someone to get fixed or what? My dad got my the violin but the E fine tuners really loose and the A fine tuner if down really low so its difficult to tune with....suggestions as to what to do?

And yes for all who will be wondering, Ive only been playing about 6 months and I dont have a teacher right now.(Im looking though blaugh )

Well, I know exactly what's up with the A,fine tuner, but I'm not sure what's up with your E. First I'll ask questions about your E. What part of it is loose? The part that spins, the whole thing as it connects to the tailpiece, or something else?

As for your A string fine tuner, there is a way to fix it, but it is slightly dangerous for a new player to attempt. You can attempt it yourself as long as you keep in mind that the violin strings CAN break. To fix it you need to turn the A fine tuner counter clockwise until the bottom of it is safely away from the violin body and it feels nice and loose. Here comes the more difficult part. You'll need to turn the A peg to raise the pitch of the string you just loosened. Remember, loosen the string before you begin to tighten it, it's safer that way. And keep a tuner on so that you don't raise the pitch of the A string too much to the point where it breaks.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this, you can see if you can find a friend to help you.

Just give more details on what part of the E fine tuner is loose, okay? Good luck finding a teacher!

Oh and, welcome once more to this guild!

Well, I do have an idea. The knob that you turn to adjust the pitch should have little lines like the sides of a dime or a quarter. Lower down on the fine tuner, possibly right up against the tailpiece, should be another serrated round spinny thing! Make sure that it's turned clockwise all the way so that it's tight.

How did the A fine tuner adventure go? I have no idea how old you are, but if you're older than 12 or 13 it should have gone fine. (If I insulted you or anyone with that statement, my apologies)

Better late than never, which almost always rings true.

As for your E fine tuner... I have no idea what is going on.

No problem. I live to serve... but mostly to be served by my slaves. So really I don't live to serve... but I help people. Yeah.
