A little article about Caffeine and Panic disorder, also anxiety http://panicdisorder.about.com/cs/shfitness/a/caffeine.htmCaffeine significantly affects your anxiety issues. Have you noticed a signicant effect from the caffeine? How many of you have decided to eliminate caffeine? How many of you have succeeded? If you've succeeded, how did you do it. How did you set that state of mind? How did you tell yourself "I'm not drinking caffeine today?"

I had panic attacks when I was on the drug Abilify, so I cut out my caffeine. It wasn't too hard, I just had to get all the Coke and tea out of the house or out of my sight and bring alternatives home from the store.

well caffeine does have the same physiological effects as anxiety so if you have anxiety or panic disorder your body cant really distinguish the symptoms so it can make u worse...
i've cut caffeine not completely out though...i drink herbal teas, i dont drink coffee, if i have coke i make sure i dont have it at night...i usually have it before like 6pm so that my body can still use up the extra energy
caffeine can be harmful if you do have anxiety and stuff but i also need it at times...my low weight means my blood pressure drops every now and again...and i need the caffeine to raise it a bit...
also when i get anxious my sugar levels stuff up heaps and sometimes i find that a lil coke can help since its filled with sugar and the caffeine actually helps me settle the shakes and head spins
you just need to know your symptoms well and learn to read your body...like if i'm feeling down and very anxious i will avoid caffeine all together, if i start gettin head spins etc i will have some caffeine...

I have not been diagnosed with anxiety or panic disorder (though the counselor I saw passingly suggested I may have social anxiety, I'm not sure I agree), but I do notice caffiene can have some strange and disturbing effects on me.
For example, this morning, I think I had a bit too much, and I am shaking, and I feel tense, like there is a string wrapped inside of me pulling tighter and wavering. I feel like I could lose my body, if I don't keep a tight hold on it. When I drink too much caffeine (more than this), I tend to get very very stupid, and I get a sensation that I am no longer in my body.
If I have it in small amounts, I seem to do fine, it just wakes me up, like it does for most people. The amount seems variably, though, unfortunately. I had the same amount yesterday as I did this morning, and yesterday I had no problem.
I never drink coffee, only chai, and very occasionally, tea or soda.
It is very hard to eliminate caffeine here at school, where we are expected to work very hard and late into the night. I have become more of a caffiene consumer since I've been here.

And another reason not to drink tea or coffee during the week. It increases anxiety (from what I can figure out from the article, even if you don't have an anxiety disorder), it speeds up your digestive system and too much messes up your sleeping pattern.
Civet, you might be allergic to it, perhaps?

I was off of it for the most part for a few weeks and my anxiety was pretty low. Well I got sick last week and I wanted what I wanted to drink and I like Mt Dew, so that's what I drank for most of the week. Come Sunday night and even today I feel a bit anxious, so I feel I can definately benefit from lowering my caffeine intake.
Maybe I should import mt dew from canada since there's no caffeine in it for legal reasons.

My current meds put me in a daze if I don't have caffeine. Plus I have headaches that go away when I have caffeine. Hey, it's better than prescription drug addictions, right?

I'm psychologically and physically addicted to caffiene. Without it, I get MASSVIE, vomit-inducing migraines that last for days on end. I've found that weaning myself off it has worked-Gradually decreasing the amount I consume, with only less severe headaches to deal with as a result. I know the psychological factors have set in, as I've quit caffiene several times. It kinda sucks. I have an addictive personality, this is just one of my many vices. sad

I should really quit caffeine myself, as I don't think my doxepin is going to help my panic attacks as much as the prozac did. I didn't even think about caffeine making things worse--but then my depression is probably more of an issue than panic attacks...

Caffeine affects anxiety... o_o That could explain why I went paranoid after trying to stay up late with coffee working on project management stuff recently. crying
(edit - im sure sleep deprivation didnt help)
A shame though since tea is what everyone in my family drinks all the time.

i don't really drink caffeine that much but right now i'm trying to make a conscious effort not to drink it at all. i've heard some stuff about it that makes me a little nervous but the big reason i'm quitting it is because i'm a singer and it tightens your vocal chords making it harder to sing and makes you more prone to cracking notes. it really hasn't been that hard for me since i don't really drink caffeinated drinks anyway.
