Welcome.

Greetings,

I am Invictus_88. I hold no high authority here, I am just an administrator. I have worked with the leadeing members of various national Guilds to form this Union as a conduit for cross-national discussion and cooperation, the decisions will all be made by yourselves.

You have joined the Union of National Guilds - this Guild is a discussion forum for the collection of nations contained within the Union. The Union is not akin to socialist workers' parties, but is instead a mechanism set up in response to small Guilds and minority nationalities feeling either that their voices and ideas are unheard, or that as guilds with common interests their voices would be far better heard in a group.

If you have joined as a member from one of these constituent Guilds then I welcome you and invite you to discuss in the Open Forum what you wish to be the next priority for the Union. We can take action on any range of things, be it helping the smaller Guilds find members, lobbying the admins to take a harder line against racist abuse or for setting up a thread to help others to understand your culture. Your role is important, we need your ideas to help your representatives (ambassadors) know what people want to see done, so please bear in mind that we also expect you to be clear, friendly and cooperative.

If you have joined as one of the two representatives put forward by each nation, then as well as being able to take part in the Open Forum you are responsible for voting in the Ambassadors' Chamber on which of the issues raised in the Open Forum we should pursue first. And then vote on how best to succeed in those aims. Don't forget though, you are representing your nation, try to remember that you are voting on behalf of the members of your national Guild.

I hope this helps you all, and I hope that this forum helps people to work together in pursuit of common goals.

Kind regards,

Invictus

Rules.

Standards:

>As this is a forum for discussion of often quite complex issues, there is no place for spam or bumping here. Persistent reoffence will result in banning.

> Though we wish to keep standards up, we accept that this forum is populated by people who do not all hold English as their first language. I trust that you will all communicate as clearly as you can, so please avoid sneering at people who mix up their grammar - they are trying hard to be clear. Provided we can understand eachother there is no need to worry about the arrangement of sentences and punctuation. Consideration is key.

> If you are an Ambassador, you are not supposed to use your crew status to alter anything - even just correcting other peoples' spelling. The Crew status is to give you access to the Ambassadors' Chamber where the issues raised by the Open Forum can be investigated, nothing more. Ambassadors who wish to make changes should ask one of the administrators to do it, and you can be sure that we will not change anything important without first consulting you.

> If you are a Member, please do not abuse the Open Forum by creating inappropriate threads or multiple threads on the exact same topic. By your membership you have the power to show your representatives what you want to change or improve, and this applies also to changes you think should be made to the Union itself - please help us to help you by keeping things clearly presented.

Banning:

> As all your opinions are valuable to the functioning of this international organisation I dislike the idea f ever having to ban anyone, so rest assured that bans will only happen after open discussion and prior warnings.

> Members - provided you do not spam, are not abusive and do not cause trouble you are safe from banning. There will be no bans for inactivity, because I understand that you may prefer to keep an eye on the discussions here without offering your own personal input.

> Ambassadors - to give you sole access to the Ambassadors' Chamber you have been given crew status. This crew status is not to be used. There are a lot of you, and I am depending on you as representatives of your respective nations to maintain high conduct. If you edit posts, move threads or ban other members then you will be investigated as all crew actions are logged. If your action is a serious misconduct then you will have to resign from you post and there will be a second election to find a replacement. However - I'm fairly sure that this will never have to happen.

> You can appeal against any ban, and you will be heard out by the Ambassadors. If favoured, a ban can be reversed.

Summary at a glance:

> No spam, no bumping, no inappropriate threads.

> Be polite and remember that we speak different levels of English. Be patient with learners and offer support, but never disapproval.

> Members - we are here to serve your interests, and also to help others with their problems. Don't hesitate to voice your opinions, and don't try to smother the opinions of others.

> Ambassadors - ignore your crew powers. Try to keep aware of what your guild wants you to do and change. If you neglect to vote on issues then your people are not getting their say.

> We avoid banning, but will ban if necessary. You will be cautioned and forewarned. You may appeal if you wish, we will listen.

How This Works.

U.N.G.:

Us, the Union of National Guilds. We are this organisation within Gaia designed to remedy the way things were. This way, the small national Guilds have a voice and can be aided by a collective of Guilds both large and small. The small find themselves having a conduit through which to voice their concerns, difficulties and hopes, and the larger Guilds as well as being now better able to help and can also benefit from having more people to support causes and resolve problems.

Note also that though the U.N.G. primarily resolves issues to do with the rest of gaia, you are also able to lobby for change within the Guild. Voting for more or fewer representatives for each nation, or creating an associate status and whatever you wish. It really is entirely up to you, because if the ambassadors give a majority vote suporting something then it will be pursued.

I am putting this together, but I'm giving it you you. If you want it changed, you can do it. If it falls inactive and we go back to square one, that's for you to deal with. It's almost an experiment on my part, but mostly I hope that it helps solve a lot of problems.

Open Forum:

This forum is open to all members and all ambassadors and it is similar to the Extended Discussion in that there is no spam and no bumping allowed. It is quite broad though, if you think that the U.N.G. can help with it, then you can make a thread (ideally with a poll, so that it's easy to guage support) about it. This way the popular causes and most pressing concerns are easily spotted and can be raised for a vote in the Ambassador's Forum.

Ambassador's Forum:

This forum is the one used by the people that your nation elected, there are two from each national Guild. When an issue comes to prominence in the Open Forum a vote is taken on whether we should try to (and naturally whether or not it is possible) resolve it. If that vote passes, it returns to the open forum for discussion as to how it should be resolved.

Following that, we decide who is going to do what, and set about improving things.
