Hey, I've recently started drum lessons and I was just wondering if anyone out there had any random words of wisdom or things they know now they wish they did starting out that they wanted to pass on. Much appreciated, thanks! ^.^

Learn the rudiments. Pretty much everything is based off of them.

FrodoFan4Ever Hey, I've recently started drum lessons and I was just wondering if anyone out there had any random words of wisdom or things they know now they wish they did starting out that they wanted to pass on. Much appreciated, thanks! ^.^ start from the bgining and work up, dont try to solo from the begining, another techneqe is the do a constant and steady drumroll starting from the snare to the last time and go back and forth, fowards and backwards. and if you cant do a beat just keep trying, dont give up

Start figurin out the basics first, don't try to jump onto something too hard to play and then fake it. Rudiments are your friends. Get a good teacher, and if you can't, learn along with your friends, they will keep you on your toes as most people don't all learn the same stuff at the same time. Then you can compare and learn from eachother.

I would say just get really comfortable with your kit and drumming in general.Dont try to play songs at first, make stuff up.Get creative. Have fun with it. Work in the rudiments into fills,do rudiments on diffrent drums and rudiments between 2 drums. Incorperate your bass drum into your rudiments. then just go from there....it all just kinda happens

just start with the technique. if you don't have good technique, the soud's gonna suck. hold the stick right, and get the finger strokes and full strokes down first.

Don't slouch too horribly! ...erm, yeah. It's just a problem Suzume has. sweatdrop But seriously, if you slouch too much, your back will hurt really badly. Hope that's remotely useful [everyone else took what We meant to say!]

Well dont rush into a band. Also dont run around going "I play drums!" People hate it when other people brag about how good they are, it makes you sound bad. Plus you dont want to embarass yourself when they acually hear you drum. I made that mistake 10 years ago when I first started gonk As for drumming tips... just play every day. Try to use some sort of ear protection, you dont want to damage your ears. I already get ringing in my ears cry A good thing to practice is working around your set. Just hit each drum twice, alternating around the set and gaining speed. Keep doing that untill it feels natural going around your set. And of course, just practice every day.

Start off slow learning simple beats, don't rush into doing fills like rolling down the toms and hittin' the symbols. You also need to get a metronome to learn and stay with keeping time because that's extreamly importans if you ever want to start a band. While you work your way up and get better and doing regualar beats then you can start doing fills and whatnot. Make sure you learn double base early because it's extreamly important and it's great to learn. Work you way up and don't try to rush your self, you're not going to get good that way. Make sure you keep the drum set in an easy set up to where you feel comfortable, it's much easier to play if everything feels right while you're doing it. It's also good to get a mentor/ inspiration so you can work hard to be able to play like them. Mine is Neil Peart from Rush, he's the greatest drummer ever! When you listen you whatever music you listen to is great motivation because it hypes you up and you want to play. (Works for me) Work your way from the bottom and slowly make your way up. I know how boring it is not go slowly up the ladder but if you want to get good and be clean then that's the best way to go. Dont get bored with it and just play dirty and not work clean it's harder to get good. So start low, an when you get real good at something and can even play it with your eyes closed then you can move on, but not to far, just step-by-step.
