Ray is the best by far. it can go in to the wter and it can move fastter and in more ways then REX or the Shagohod. and RAY has the laser, machine gun, and rockets. it could destroy the Shagohod and REX in a second.

With all due respect, Ray was the worst one, in my opinion. It was so easy to take them out. Plus they needed more than one to back them up. It was easy, shoot the knees, then shoot the head.

Rex was fun, but kinda crapy, shoot the satelite on his shoulder. But it was still a challenge to fight

Shagohod, was the most difficult i find, but not because it was the best built, because Volgin kept giving it a boost of power. But you gotta admit, any weapon that can fire a nuke from anywhere is pretty powerfull and well built

Im gonna go with Rex, besides the shoot the satelite thingy, it was the most durable.

Now... while I agree about REX being a strong machine, I have to defend RAY. Sure, REX has the ability to fire a nuke from any type of terrain, and the nuke cannot be picked up on any type of radar. It has rather poor mobility, but it's arsenal makes up for it. It has a laser type cannon, plenty of missiles, and a vulcan cannon to boot. A fine machine, I admit. It was definitely a pain in MGS1.
But in my opinion; the best is obviously RAY. RAY is a a weapon of conventional warfare, not a nuclear launch platform like REX. It was originally created to destroy the derivatives of Metal Gear REX, which obviously would have been better than the original REX itself. That fact alone, my friends, equals to major pwnage. I mean, if you were going to build a machine and spend so much money creating it, the least you could do is make sure it could destroy what its meant to destroy.

And also, the mass produced versions were unmanned - they were controlled by AI, as I've said before, I believe this made it a lot easier to defeat. The massed produced RAYs were also redesigned to only guard Arsenal. So calling them a duplicate of the prototype would be false. They don't even have tails xp If the Prototype version were controlled by a human it would easily eliminate Solid Snake or anyone else.

But I'm sure we'll find out its strength in MGS4, seeing as Ocequid hijacked it at the end of SOL.

RAY has my vote when it comes to style and tactics.

If you approach a battle between all three (manned and running at full capacity) the first thing Shagohod is going to have to do is ditch half it's chassis unless it wants to get ripped into by REX's (awesome) claws. So, Shagohod ditches it's rear but now is forced to face the other opponents head on since it can't hit reverse. RAY spins around in an effort to whack Shagohod with it's tail, while bending over to counterbalance and also lower his exposed surface area. Shagohod steps on the gas and moves forward, only getting sideswiped, while REX takes a dropstep to offset his balance in preparation for a concussive missile launch from the railgun, aiming at RAY's feet. After looking in his rearview mirror and checking his blindspot, Ray follows through with the swing of his tail, using his momentum to take him out of REX's intended trajectory and completing a full 360 degree spin. On the final arc of the spin, RAY fires from his machine guns in order to try and cause REX to back up or at least shield himself. By this time, Shagohod has moved out of the crossfire and turned around, taking advantage of his opponents' distraction and targeting REX's knees with the flak cannon. REX recoils from the missile launch and gives with it in order to kneel against the incoming fire, RAY takes this time to launch his payload in part or in whole depending on REX's ability to react. Three possible outcomes emerge: 1. RAY launches his payload in part, Shagohod is destroyed or incapacitated and REX manages to defend against most of the missiles without being impaired. 2. RAY launches his payload in part, Shagohod is D/I and REX fails to defend against the missile strike becoming significantly impaired. 3. RAY launches his payload in full, Shagohod and REX both D/I. In cases, 2 and 3, RAY is the obvious victor unless in case 2 REX nukes the both of them. In case 1, RAY and REX will continue to face off, with RAY taking the upperhand slowly due to greater mobility.

I liked the RAY's design a lot, it looks like an EVA from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
