What's the actual chronological order of Haruhi? I've never read the novel, so I really have no idea short of watching the previews for all of them.
Specifically, I want to know the episode thats chronologically after ep 14 (if there is one). Can anyone help?

Well I got this list from Wiki, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_episodesChronologically I guess episode 14 is 6th. So the next one would be episode 4 which is the 7th. To go in chronological order by listing the order of released eps, it goes: 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9. I hope I was able to help..

I love how that works.. It is very cool. I like animes where you have to piece the episodes together

I prefer watching it in episode order because episode 14 actually feels like an ending unlike 9..... and it's meant to be watched in that order since Haruhi is like a god and she mixed the whole order of the episodes lol.

Here's a review from my good friend Curt in another forum. Curt After some partial pondering, Its been decided that I can no longer wait any longer in giving a review to such a "Godly" anime. For starters this anime deserves the title for "best animation" Not of the year ofcourse, but EVER! In all honesty its flawless. IMO even Air if frail in comparison. Haruhi Suzumiya has some questions for you... Are you a ghost or a spirit of a deceased person wandering the surface of the earth? Are you a time-traveler from either an era of the past or future? Are you an esper with the paranormal-psychological powers of either telepathy or extra-sensory perception? Are you an alien visitor from another planet beyond the reaches of our galaxy here to research the human existance? Are you an idiot who failed to watch the anime in episode order, and blissfully attempted to watch it in chronological order( That would be me, though I was shocked when I realized watching it that way, was basically watching an anime without any climax). If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then Suzumiya-san has been searching all her life for you. She even started a club at her new high school devoted to this same exact purpose... the S.O.S. Brigade!!! (serious members only, of course). little bit more about the cast... Haruhi Suzumiya is the girl that all her female classmates want as a friend, all the guys want as a girlfriend, all the clubs want as a member, all the students want as a study-partner. Everything she does in life, she excels at, yet nothing about any of those things interest her. She has her mind set on one thing and that's discovering what secrets lie beneath the boring tedium of normal life. Being dragged along on her quest is her new classmate (and our narrator), Kyon. When he starts up a simple conversation with her one day, that's all it took for him to become the co-charter member of her new paranormal investigation club, the S.O.S. Brigade!! He didn't want to become a member, nor did the sweet and pleasant Mikuru or the quiet and studious Yuki, but what Haruhi wants, Haruhi gets. She's smart, she's sexy, she's strong, and she's determined. Her personality is literally the driving element of this whole phenomenon and we're all along for the ride. So, are you still not convinced yet? Okay, let me get a little more personal then. I have been an anime fan for well over three years. I have seen nearly (****) different series and I swear very few times have I before come across a more engaging and entertaining show. I know you're seeing the avatars and signature banners (and the occassional Mikuru Beam!!) all over the internet right now, and I know you don't want to be left behind. Tens of thousands of anime fans can't be wrong. Haruhi-ism is the new obsession. Even if all you watch is the first episode, it's still one step closer to falling in love with this series. Final verdict: FU**ING MASTERPIECE. There hasn't been one episode that's been extremely weak which bogged down the entire series. Combined with gorgeous animation, very likable characters, extremely witty dialouge, and the absolute boldness of SHUFFLING episodes and still get the point across is nothing short but amazing. Not to mention all those non-pretentious scientific terms thrown around which will forever be discussed for years to come. Overall:9.0/10 (this could have honestly have gotten a 10, it is basically my fault, since I was actually dumb enough to watch the episodes in chronological order, and hence it really had no ending) AT all costs DO NOT watch it in chronological order, but rather in episode order)

EVA-01X Belive me, I saw it happen with NGE, Air, Rozen Maiden (Mass Flood Desu Get?) and now, it all starts again with Melancholy Just another cycle I don't see the same thing happening in quite as massive scale with Haruhi only because, unlike the other shows you've mentioned, Haruhi does not take itself seriously. It isn't trying too hard to be deep, life-changing, dramatic or the world's greatest work of art. It is just trying to be silly, clever, and funny. It's a lot eiaser to find faults in something that is trying too hard and a lot easier to except faults in something that knows it's limits. But yes, on the other hand, rabid fans are annoying and can kill a show. I don't think they'll do that for Haurhi, because the elitists that usually do the bashing seem to support Haruhi. And if people don't love it, or think it's the best thing ever, I don't think they'll lash out against it as being overrated as forcefully as with some other shows. I thought Air was terrible, but I still love Haruhi...

Thankfully I haven't had to experience that with Haruhi fans/haters yet, but I've been down that road with AIR many, many times.
Edit: AIR is a bit different though. If you understand it, you love it, if you don't, you hate it. There's very little room (if any) in between. I helped explain the ending to some users in A/M/C last night and they seemed to have a much better apreciation of it after they read my explanation. They went from; "WTF did I just watch?!" to "Wow, it's actually pretty good now that it makes sense."

I'd ask for that explanation, but unfortunately I don't remember the show enough for it to make sense. My problem with air wasn't the story (which I didn't think was that great) but that it was trying too hard to be artsy. Ok that and the complete lack of resolution (the movie was a waste) which didn't help either.

So I had some major issues with the artwork as well. I thought the backgrounds were exceptional though, especially the clouds and sky shots. I also liked the characters eyes as well, even though I hated the rest of the character design. xd

I just sort of felt that it was trying to be vauge on purpose to give a feeling of deeper meaning when there really isn't anything. Or rather, it was trying to focus on certain parts that seem the most "artistic" (such as the story about the girl in the sky or turing the main character into a bird.) The parts that I think actually say the most are the realistic things, like the relationship between whats-her-face and her mom, not the vauge "symbol" of the kids on the beach...

The parts that I think actually say the most are the realistic things, like the relationship between whats-her-face and her mom, not the vauge "symbol" of the kids on the beach... **spoilers ahead** That's where you're wrong. It's not vague at all. What it is is subtle and cryptic. There was a deeper meaning to it and it all gets explained by the time the series ends. I'm not exactly sure why he came back as a crow, but I can understand why he came back as a bird. Ironically enough Misuzu names him Sora which means sky and at first he can't fly, like Kanna, the fact that he can't fly is also a refernce to something Minagi said; "What good are wings if I can't fly?" Yukito also had a strong desire to fly so he could find the girl in the sky, even though he eventualy realizes that he could only communicate to her through Misuzu. Another reason he didn't come back as human was because he said he wanted to be with Misuzu. Had he come back as a human he would have triggered the curse again, the only way he could do it all over again and be with her was to not be recognizably Yukito and to not know what he did before. Had he retained his memories he may have given his identity away. The girl in the sky IS the story. Without it there is no AIR. o.O It's what the series is about and everything comes back to Kanna's curse. All the characters are affected in one way or another by the curse until Yukito basically sets them free. The only one he didn't set free was Misuzu. And he could have done it. When he triggered the doll of unfulfilled wishes he wished to do it all over again rather than wishing to free the girl in the sky and save Misuzu, so he turned into a crow and did it all over again. The kids on the beach are not vague either. Though some I've talked to say that the boy is Yukito, I tend to think that the boy is another decendant of Ryuuya and Uraha who has gained Yukito's memories somehow, possibly from Kanna or Yukito himself. Unless of course Yukito is looking at himself and talking in 3rd person; "They will experience sadness for the rest of their days." Which is entirely possible. The crow from the 2nd attempt is noticably missing so that makes you wonder what happened to Yukito the 2nd time. But in my opinion, the boy had an "awakening" moment there on the beach after gaining Yukito's memories. Everything points in that direction in my opinion. It makes more sense that way too. Yukito couldn't do it over again as a human and he couldn't warn his self of the mistakes he made when he turned into Sora, so he passed his memories on to the next host so he wouldn't make the same mistakes. The girl he was with was obviously another potential host for Kanna's spirit. **spoilers end** Everytime I watch it, everytime I talk about it, I understand the series more and more. I really am slowly picking the series apart. It's very deep, almost everything has a meaning and a purpose and it's all linked together. So when you try and understand one part you have to make sure it fits the other parts as well. Which is what makes it so difficult to understand.
