Lately i've been considering a tattoo.. (A simple one around the wrist. Nothing like a skull with flames or anything) And then considering my profession and anything after that.. Would it significantly affect my job hunting abilities? Or would it just hinder it? And then I had the thought.. What about everyone else? Any of you have any? I know alot of girls get the lower back ones, and sometimes ankles. But you never know. (( A friend of mine wants to get one like bassically in her cleavage. and i'm thinking... gonk oww....)) So what's your take on them?

If I were an employer, I wouldn't have a problem with tattoos or any other body modifications/art. But this is because most of my friends have tattoos and I've never had negative feelings towards it.
I can understand why some employers would have a problem with it. Some consider it to be unprofessional and if you work directly with the customer, or people you are serving, many employers wouldn't want you to look "scary."
If you get a tattoo, it would probably be best to get it in a place that you can easily cover it up.

Hmm ya.. that was my general take on it as well. It would be fairly small most likely going on the underside of my wrist. So a long sleeve shirt would cover it. Or a watch.

Personally I don't have a problem with them, in fact I have one. The one I have is on my hip and is easily coverable - so much so that my parents still have no clue almost a year later. My suggestion would be to either get a small one on your wrist that can be covered with a watch or to get one someplace else completely.

Ive got one tattoo, and when I get money that I can spend freely again (Im saving some now) after bills and rent and all the rest Ill be getting another. My boss doesnt mind at all, in fact he has about 7 tattoo's himself. And my line of work it doesnt matter much at all. (heck Ive got a full-blown beard even lol. Tattoo's dont bother me at all on other people, it wouldnt stop me from hiring anybody.

I've got a lot of tattoos they're not really noticable for the kind of work I do.
A lot of tattoos like the skulls with flames and stuff might actually offend people unless put on a place where you know only you and your friends will see it.
I have a cross on my back with all of my friends names, a black heart in flames for my wife on my arm and then my band intials on my other arm.

I want a tattoo, but I'm terrified of needles....
I dont have a problem with tastful tattoos...I say as long as its something discrete you shouldnt have a problem with it...now getting a naked lady on the length of your arm might cause you some problems blaugh

1 out of 7 american adults have a tatoo. I had teachers with tatoos... My parents are tatooed. As long as you get it somewhere that is easy to hide you won't have a problem.

I have a large tattoo across my chest. It's a preying mantis. I teach at an inner city hs in norther Cal. Anyway...it isn't a problem. I am pretty much known as the teacher with a tat. There is another teacher at the school that has full sleeves.
But, when I was subbing at my nieces school in Michigan (a Catholic schoo), I had to cover my collar bones and legs as much as possible. The parents where a bit mortified by the body manipulation.
I think it depends upon the context and if you are a male or female. A WW II vet with tats on their arm (male) is more likely to be accepted in some places than a young woman. However, in urban settings a woman is likely to be perfectly fine.

It really only depends on where you are going to be working. Right now I work at a hospital as network tech and I have a dragon wrapped around a dagger on my forearm, plenty of people see it but its within the dress code. But if I worked somewhere like wallstreet it probably wouldn't be as accepted. Although I think there are someplaces out there that are still under the misconception that girls have to get girly tattoos so any girl with tattoos that aren't flowers or butterflys get put into a stereotype.
A good rule of thumb is to do what the military does, nothing above the collar and nothing below your cuff line. And don't get anything offensive like a swastika, flags burning, demons eating babies, etc
I mean, even Mr. Rogers had full sleeves but he still hosted tv show for kids.

I have a tattoo on my back, and I'm seriously considering getting another one. I'm a social worker, so I don't see the big deal about it being there, especially because you can't see it. There was a bit of a problem when I was doing my practicum though, and it was in an elementary school. It's not like you could see it, but they had a real problem with the kids seeing someone they looked up to, having a tattoo. It's not like it's offensive or anything, but yeah. I thought it was dumb. If you're getting yours on your wrist, and you can cover it with a watch, or a long sleeved shirt, then it shouldn't be a problem. An employer isn't going to be scanning your wrists for tattoos. At least I don't think so. And if you're sketchy on that, you can always use coverup on it for awhile... After its fully healed. I think its dumb that people get all riled up about tattoo's anyway. It's self expression, and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Exactly what I was thinking. (in complying with others about covering it up) Now I just need to give it more thought, sure it'll be nice for the first 10 yrs, but when i'm 40 will I still remember it for reasons I got it now? *Shrugs* We'll see... This may be one of those things that are just neat and you wish you had, but you dont have it.

I have a few tattoos and all are hidden when I'm wearing my uniform. (Army). Personally I feel that if you can hid your tattoos, like wearing a long sleeve shirt and if the tattoos are not offensive, like a naked chick with a burning flag, then I would not think there should be any problem.

I personally LOVE tattoos... if they're done well.
Many of them aren't.
If you really want to do this, you should DEFINITELY "shop around" for artists. And depending on where on your wrist this thing is, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I mean, if you wear a wristwatch, you could cover it up with that when you go to work. o.o;
