What movies have been filmed close to your home town?
From where I live they have filmed the following within about 30 miles of the house, not to include Chicago proper or the John Hughes mythical town of Shermer for me:
Groundhog Day- Entirely filmed in Woodstock, IL standing in for the town in Pennsylvania. They still celebrate the day every year.
Hoffa- Certain rural scenes only
Normal Life- Factory scenes filmed where I worked at the time. In real life, the character Ashley Judd played was killed by police about 3 miles from where these scenes were filmed.

Part of L.A. Confidential (my favorite movie, by the way) was filmed near where I live.

1.The Movie, The Green Mile, was partially filmed at Moses Cone Manor on the Parkway in Blowing Rock. The Manor was portrayed as the character's retirement home.
2.A short part of the movie, Forrest Gump, was filmed at Grandfather Mountain (part of Forrest's run across America is filmed going up Grandfather).
There are lots of others ..but those two are the best known movies.I live in Boone, NC. very close to those two places.

fast and the furios tokyo drift and when i lived back in la they filmed
gone in 60 seconds close to my home

Hmmm...
There was something filmed here on Guam in 2004, a film called
"Max Havoc : Curse of the Dragon" starring Mickey Hardt and Carmen Electra. It was filmed mainly in the hotel strip, and I remember it was sort of a "big deal" because it was the first time a (supposed) big time movie was going to be filmed on island. Even the local gov't put up some money to help back it.
xp Unfortunately....................the movie was terrible.
It had a one day showing in theaters and quickly went to local cable t.v. where it was deemed a huge disappointment.

Oh, I forgot, one of the scenes from Road to Perdition was filmed in a town about 5 miles away.

Actually, they filmed Big Fish in my state. I was pretty psyched about it, too, considering I love both Tim Burton & Ewan McGregor. And they were in my state the same time I was! (what if Danny Elfman was, too?)

Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed in st. vincent thats a neighboring island does that count sweatdrop

there's never been any movie filmed near me but there was a drama called Vincent that's screened in the UK that was filmed across the street from my house sweatdrop xp

the third back to the future movia was filmed in the neighboring town...there are still props and everything. the train they used is in sorry shape though...though they just got a grant to start refurbishing it. blaugh i used to go see it all the time when i was a kid!
