I have thought about opening my own haunted attraction someday, and I wanted to bounce some ideas around here and get some feedback.

I've done quite a bit of research and I'm well aware of the time and money involved in having your own attraction. And besides my research I have friends who are involved at a local Jaycees and we often talk about this subject. But this isn't something I'm going to rush right out and do, this is kind of a long-term idea.

First of all, there's not a whole heck of a lot to do in this area anymore. Most things like malls, movie theaters, you have to about drive 45 minutes or so to get to.

I was thinking about having an attraction that is open year-round because some people don't restrict good scary fun to just October.

I agree that yearround would be awesome. Look at the places people visit where something scary happened. My family is getting ready to visit the Bell Witch Cave in Adams Tennessee. I let you know if it was worth it. scream Sure it won't be scary, but interesting. smile

There used to be one around here every Halloween. But they closed it down because it was too scary. People were throwing up and having all kinds of problems, I never went though.

Sounds intense. Some say people go to Haunted Houses to enjoy them and someone losing control of a bodily function ruins the experience.

For me knowing that a place made someone mess their pants makes it sounds interesting.

How scary is too scary?

The funny thing was it was a church that put this on, their interpetaion of hell. There were people (I think actors xd ) being whipped and tortured, and they'd chase the people around with whips and axes (I think). The city closed it down because they thought it was too realistic or something stupid.

Sounds like a regular Holy Terror. rofl Bad jokes aside, I've heard of churches doing these "Hell House" things around Halloween and they sound interesting to say the least.

I went to a Tribulation house a few years ago, and the place really made me think. I even remember a site for a hunted house I found a few years ago that was run by a Christian. And if I remember correctly the money he made went to his church, or some charity.

Not really. I enjoyed going through their setup. It was done pretty well. Although when we were going up the steps to the final scene, I couldn't help but saying "Stairway To Heaven" outloud.

I've checked out some sites for attractions online, and there's one in particular that sounds really nasty.

I have some room ideas for the place I want to do someday. Wanna hear them?

Do tell.

One idea was a werewolf room. The people would walk in, and the door would shut behind them. An old projector would begin playing black and white footage of a person changing into werewolf. The werewolf would then come closer and closer. The movie would suddenly stop and the werewolf actor would rip through the screen. Sounds awesome huh?

That'd be kind of tiring to replace the paper each time. Anyways, I've participated in a haunted house or two, and I have to say the room I was put into last year was just plain awesome. Ok so it's really all about Atmosphere.

So what they had us do was wear these white ghostface masks. (They weren't ghost face, they were the Tragedy and Comedy masks things really. But elongated.) Anyways, we then put on these black robes that hid our skin. Here's the best part though. The Room was painted black and the only thing illuminating it was a blacklight. But here's the catch... The room had the same copies of masks taped to the wall so you didn't know which ones were us, and which were fake. I got some good scares in there.

I was part of a haunted house when I was a kid, some little b*****d thought it would be funny to twist my arm- I was hanging my arms from a wall "grabing" at people. I should have strangled him and said it was part of the act. xd twisted

I thought of that, if I could think of a way to use a long roll like they use in a doctor's office that I could keep replacing in seconds it wouldn't be so bad.

I work across the street from the city newspaper and we've bought what is called an end roll very resonably from them a few times. I could get a few of these and they would last a while.

Sounds like a take on the dot room. Good idea though. I always thought those theater masks were freaky looking anyway.

Speaking of the ghostface masks, I remember seeing those on the shelves of dollar stores everywhere before Scream came out. Then they made their way to bigger department stores. For an inflated price of course.

I like where this discussion is going. I'd love to hear more stories of your favorite haunts. Like what rooms had the best scares?
