Any fans here? I'm not German myself but have been learning it for the last 6 years (that makes me feel so old...), so I can finally understand some of the music now!
Some bands I like are: Die ärzte Die Prinzen Die Toten Hosen Juli Rammstein Kraftwerk (has anyone else heard the German version of "the model"? It sounds so strange...) etc.

I know Die Arzte, Die Toten Hosen, Rammestein and Kraftwerk from that group.
If you like strange singer songwriter stuff check out Nico. I'd recommend Chelsea Girl before The End though, the end gets VERY odd! Also, if you like Metal or Goth, check out Subway To Sally. Or for a bizarre mish-mash of punk, ska, metal and the Pogues check out Fiddlers Green (their version of Popcorn is the funniest thing I've ever heard!)
Although they're American, The Liars recently moved to Germany (like, a year or two ago) and have made one of the best albums so far this year, Drums Not Dead.

i am German! xD The music over here is mostly awful, just the "best" or better said the "so-called best" gets over to other countries. Kraftwerk was cool. Someone knows the Einstürzende Neubauten?

OOMPH! <33 That band sounds so dark and angry most of the time, but it sure brings me up when I'm feeling down xD E Nomine is excellent as well, and Blumchen. [[: Other than those 3 bands, though, I don't know a lot of German ones. n wn; I taught myself how to speak German, but my spelling and grammar stinks of English. xD;

I don't really know many German artists/bands. In fact, I only know two: Nanne Grönvall and Rammstein. And I don't even like Rammstein. xp Nanne is cool, though. Beautiful voice, and one of her songs was used for one of the most famous AMVs ever. xd

A huge amount of older music was written in German. They have a tradition of amazing and thoughtful music. It's great the variety that exists.
There is also Rammstein for modern music... oh changes.
