My knight in Shining Armour
Before
Incandescent radiance flows from him,
Tangible, streaming like white ribbons,
They embrace me, support me,
Whispering hope into my craving ears...
Patiently, the suns and moons rotate.
Oh, how the ribbons call to me!
Letting my pining heart glimpse pure bliss;
Entwined in the emotion: love.
I crave those gentle soft hands,
That warm pure heart,
Those bright caring eyes.
He will descend from Heaven
to deliver me from this loneliness.
My angel... my knight in shining armour.
After
The bowl, brimming with glistening water:
Tipped; spilt upon the gravel.
Days, weeks, months, years wasted;
I squatted intently observing a bud - never to flower...
Suddenly the ribbons loosen around me -
I fall, surprised at the intensity of my withdrawal
from reality, the height at which I was raised,
The velocity at which I hit the merciless ground.
Shattered; my fragmented heart weeps,
Calling for the faded hope that escaped me.
Grasping blindly for reassurance; a voice to whisper
"It’s okay, this is only a dream."
My absolute goal: my heroic knight,
Thwarted as Eurydice ascended to Earth.
The glimmering trophy, the height of my aspirations
turned out to be nothing but a fallen angel.
