So I'm new... and I felt I should post something... I was thinking about talking about E. A. Poe... because I like his poetry... then I realized there are a lot of other interesting writers that don't write just poetry (I'm into story writing). I don't know if it classifies as reading when you discuss books and all... but anyways... (I realize I do the annoying three period thing a lot, I'm sorry if it annoys anyone... bad habit.) Well I guess I'll start off just listing few of my favorite authors and seeing if anyone wants to discuss them... if not... clue me in on what you normally talk about (other than critiqueing and all).
Anne Mccaffrey (the Dragonriders of Pern in particular) Eoin Colfer G. P. Taylor Corneilia Funke

I don't really have any authors I refuse to acknowledge, and I don't have any that I particularly worship. To have been published at all is a great accomplishment, and to have obtained popularity from the masses is even more daunting!
But, back to the subject at hand. Authors that, at the moment, I feel a penchant for are:
Richard Adams (Watership Down) V.C. Andrews (Her "Flowers in the Attic" and "Heaven" sets) J.K. Rowling George Lucas (His non-Star Wars books, like Willow) Scott Cunningham (although not a fictional writer, I love his accessable style) Henry James (The Turn of the Screw)
Nuclear Oops, I find it very interesting that you're so dead set against that series of popular writers, but you still support R.A. Salvatore; I've never read any of his books, I have friends who have said he's sold out entirely.

J.R.R Tolkien Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Brian Jacques (I met him, he's a really cool guy) Bram Stoker Anne Rice (I've only read a little bit by her, but it was good) Micheal Crichton Margeret Weis & Tracy Hickman (together, they write excellent fantasy)
Those are my main favorites. But I'm withNuclearOops...Stephen King is not as good as many people make him out to be. I've hated every book I ever read by him.

I love Cornelia Funke. Inkheart was quite the page turner. I couldn't keep my eyes off the book. Dragon Rider was really good too. The Theif Lord was good, but not as good as the others. Eoin COlfer Is really good too. I read all of the Artemis Fowl series. I want to read the Supernaturalist but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I noticed Margaret Peterson Haddix hasn't been mentioned yet (I don't think anyway.)

Wow, I suddenly feel like the only person that likes Steven King... I've only read one of his books though. I also really like Brian Jacques, George Orwell, V.C. Andrews, Richard Adams heart oh, and Andrew Greeley! Tim LaHaye, John Edward, and Lynne Ewing are good too.... I don't think I hate any authors... maybe Kate Chopin a bit but that's just because she was an annoying person. She's a good writer though... yeah, it's long, sorry!

I went to the store and saw it and was shocked because I thought the third was the end and never heard a thing about the fourth before that. Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception I beleive it's called if you didn't hear about it yet. stare

I know everyone has their own opinion and everything, but the Dragonriders in my mind top all others.

Another author I really like is Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. Her stories are really interesting, in my opinion (Hawksong; In The Forests Of The Night). I also recently read a play by John Osborne called Look Back in Anger which I thought was really good.
