hi!
So Ive been playing violin for quite some time, and Ive recently started enjoying the viola more and IM looking to buy one. Any suggestion on what to look out for, what brands to stay with and what ones to stay away from? Im only looking for a beginner model right now I think, unless someone suggests otherwise....are they more difficult to upkeep then a violin?

All I can say on this matter is make sure you've tried the various sizes first. I'm pretty small, like 5'4'' and I have "doll" arms and hands apparently. When we played the Brandenburg 6 all of the violins were outfitted with violas. There was a mix-up and for some reason I was handed a 16''. I very nearly started crying. SO... don't go too big... yet. biggrin Just thought I'd reinforce common sense.

Yes, double and triple check the size that you need for your viola. I have a 16 3/4" viola. My first viola was to small at 15". As for brands, I have a Richard Woodsen. Woodsen violas are very well done. Granted, its a Chinese model, and Chinese instuments have had a bad rap as instruments, but this one is great.
