I may finish this someday, but as is, it really isn't worth looking at... please leave this thread now.

Okay, I feel like making a thread about FFXI, as it is an incredibly fun game, but discourages people from playing by it's monthly fee.

So, I am going to tell about random things about it, but probably I'll be putting things in under my opinion just so you know... I'll try to mark fact from opinion somehow if I need to. If I get a character started on Quezalcoatl server, I may start a journal thing about my escapades as a level 1 everything. That'll be awhile though, since it isn't my money paying for XI and we already paying $2 extra because I have a total of 3 characters on my account.
As much information as I may put, I probably should get my own subforum for this... Like put a thread about what races should do what, or maybe information on specific jobs (though my forte is Thief, I've been in enough parties to tell you what each jobs' role is.)

As for now... I don't have anything worth typing because I don't know where to start... I haven't played XI in awhile because the Internet service that is on the computer with XI on it sucks because I get disconnected every 5-30 minutes because that internet disconnects from inactivity or sends spyware at us, which is blocked but the popup of the blocker disconnects from the full-screen, and I don't wanna use windowers as they are 3rd party devices and can result (Worst-case scenario) in being banned by a GM, as they can find out if you are using such devices (even though so many people use windowers, the only way you may get caught using one is if someone reports you for something probably unrelated, and even then they may not care unless you're using a windower with things that enhance your playing ability unfairly or a windower that messes with the models).
(Wow, big run-on sentence.)

Please post stuff and get me started on information!

ADD ON EDIT: If I am allowed to make a subforum for this, may I, and if I can, how?

POST EDIT: I read the thing talking about avoiding spoilers, and I doubt what I plan on entering into this thread would be a spoiler, but just to be sure...
WARNING: THERE MAY BE SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD TO BE!
You can get basic information on jobs and such in the compendium in the XI portion, but I plan on more detailed descriptions if anybody is interested. I also don't intend on telling the storylines behind how you unlock the unlockable jobs or other quests/missions so I won't be spoiling anything there. By the look of what I have seen so far though, nobody seems to be interested anyway sweatdrop

So anyway, this thread is here if anybody is interested in getting more detailed information on FFXI! If nobody does, I may just start posting things unless told otherwise.

Okay, I'm going to start posting things now...

Here is a key to terms that I would rather abbreviate:
PL=Power Level(Power leveler if marked with an article beforehand [a an the])
DD=Damage dealer
2hr=2 hour ability (the job ability each job has that has a 2 hour downtime after use)
AoE=Area of effect (refers to attacks or spells that hit targets in area)
WS=Weapon skill
SC=Skill chain
MB=Magic burst
TNL=experience to next level
CP=Conquest points
LS=Linkshell (I may not use this at all, but it's still good to know)
RoZ= Rise of the Zilart (expansion, though I practically made that abbreviation up as I've never heard anyone online use that)
CoP=Chains of Promathia (expansion... and it is PromAthia, not PromEthia. I hear/see too many people call it that)
ToAU=Treasures of Aht Ur'ghan (expansion)
SE=SquareEnix
*I may add some more as I think of them later*

Official Abbreviations (most are no brainers):
*Note that all the stats have other purposes besides what is in parenthesis*
STR=Strength (contributes to attack)
VIT=Vitality (contributes to defense)
DEX=Dexterity (contributes to accuracy)
AGI=Agility (contributes to evasion)
MND=Mind (contributes to healing/support spell effectiveness)
INT=Intelligence (contributes to magic attack)
CHR=Charisma (contributes to special attributes, mostly for jobs that have pets)
HP=Hit points
MP=Magic points
TP=Tech points (used for WS)
Exp=Experience points
*Again if I missed one I'll put it in as I think of it*

I'm basically going to list information about the individual jobs such as the reason peopl level up that particular job, nifty abilities (maybe all abilities I know) of that job, and that job's role in parties of both level up, and events (I'm not going to go into detail of the events, but tell of that job's usual strategies for boss-type battles)

I'll probably start with the starting jobs, then go into the unlockable jobs.
As far as jobs go, I'll type the job's name in a color to represent my knowledge in them
Red:Little to No experience firsthand, data not likely to be incredibly reliable or accurate (personal level 1-14)
Indigo:Little to Some experience, more accurate than red, but still fairly inaccurate in my opinion (level 15-39)
Blue biggrin ecent experience, Fairly reliable, but for best results in info seeking, go to a helpsite(level 40-64)
Green:Master experience, I truly know a lot about this job and this info can be compared to a summarization of a help site entry (level 65-75) (note: none of these will be Green sweatdrop )
Most of these will be red, and the info is mostly based on what I have seen, heard, performed/experienced, and what I remember from those days I was bored and looked at a helpsite
Also note, since I do not have ToAU, the details of Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, and Corsair are still rather mysterious to me, but it doesn't mean I haven't seen these guys in action.

But I'll get into the racial stats 1st, what each job truly specializes in, which will not be color coded
Also note, just because a race may not be suited for certain jobs, it doesn't mean they can't do it well. I have a real-life friend who plays Elvaan Thief, and I have an in-game friend who plays Galkan Summoner... Both of which have gotten these jobs to their max level of 75
I also see a lot of Mithra play Beastmaster (of course since a late update EVERYBODY has been playing Beastmaster)

Hume

Hume is the basic race
They have no weak points stat-wise, but also no strong points
They are the average Jack-of-All-Trades race
This race is probably the most popular of all races because of this (no material to back up this claim)

I kind of think this feature makes them the best race to play as Red Mage, but thats just me talking

If you start out as a Hume, you should choose to set your alliance with Bastok at the beginning so you can get a free Bastokan Ring (level 1 All jobs +1 STR +1 DEX)
Those Nation Rings are so useful, but hard to get unless you start your character in the nation your race belongs/originates in/from.

(To get one otherwise, you have to achieve rank 3, get the sufficient amount of CP, and use that CP to buy it from the nation that is currently dominating Vana'diel... On my server the Bastokan Ring is near impossible for me to get, as Bastok is rarely ever dominant.)

Elvaan

The Elvaan are strange in their stats
They have the highest MND stat of all races, but (2nd?) lowest MP
They also have a high STR, but very low DEX
Their VIT is decent, up there
INT is their lowest stat
They have (2nd?) highest CHR
Not sure about AGI

They make nice Warriors and related jobs, and the MND stat makes them really nice White Mages, but like I stated little MP makes for a short period of constant casting... The combined STR and MND makes them very suitable for Paladin.
Their high CHR makes them do the Beastmaster and Bard jobs well, and probably helps them with Dragoon (maybe even helps Summoner)

Their low DEX makes them poor candidates for Thief and Ranger
Low INT makes for poor Black Magery
I'm not sure how they do as the other jobs, but my friend plays Elvaan Monk which seems to do well

Elvaan should start in San'doria for a free San'dorian Ring (level 1 all jobs +1 VIT +1 MND)

*I should remind you, I'm not exactly confident on my accuracy, so if you really want to find out this stuff accurately, I'd suggest going to a help site such as allakhazam.com (not sure I spelled that right) or gamefaq.com*

Tarutaru

These little-wittle (hehe) guys are all about magery.
They have highest INT, high MND, most MP
because they tiny, they have a really nice AGI rating as well
DEX is average
STR and VIT are the little guys poor points, and they also are lacking in HP
They have highest CHR if Elvaan don't.

As the magery goes, they can perform any/all mage jobs with great success

They make for poor melee jobs though

They can do jobs like Thief and Ranger with decent success

The CHR makes them great for Bard and Beastmaster

Taru's should start in Windurst for Windurstian Ring (level 1 all jobs +3 MP +1 AGI)
PostPosted: Fri Jul 21, 2006 9:28 pm

Galka

The Galkas are a race of no gender (though all considered male) that belive in brute force
The total opposite of the Tarutaru
They have highest STR, VIT, and HP
DEX is average/poor
AGI is average
but as the opposite of the Taru, they have lowest MND, low INT and low MP
I've never been too certain of the Galka's CHR, but I can't imagine it being high

The Galkas can perform melee jobs with amazing success, they can hit more than an Elvaan for one thing

even though their DEX isn't the greatest, they can still make decent Thief, and Ranger, although still lacking in DEX, when a Galka Ranger hits his target, it HITS

and alas being melee, they make poor mages

Galkas should start in Bastok for the Bastokan Ring

Mithra

The cat-girl race
supposedly in-game there are supposed to be males which do the housework and what-not, but you never see them...

These are the constant hitters
they have the highest DEX of all the races
AGI is tied with Taru
their magery stats are average
but their STR and VIT are relatively low
And as I believe, Mithra have the lowest CHR

Mithra, with their grrreat (hehe) DEX and AGI, make the best Thieves and Rangers, and other melee classes are decent too because of the fact they can land a lot of their attacks, even though the damage may not be just amazing

and because of their mage stats not being total crap, they can perform magery well too.

They make poor Beastmasters and Bards though because of the CHR

Mithra should start in Windurst for the ring

Fun fact: because Mithra only come in female, the term "Manthra" (which means male person playing Mithra) has spawned, and this has caused many to believe that all Mithra are Manthra, and it doesn't help that SE made Mithra the only race that looks skimpy when totally unequipped.

Okay now that the races have been covered lets move onto the jobs.
like I stated before, I don't know much about the most recent jobs (Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, Corsair) other than what I have seen. I won't bother putting what race makes for best of each job and that stuff unless I failed to mention said job in the races segment.

Each job will be described in a list-like thing at the start, followed by a note of what that job is all about, and then followed by my personal note.

I hope I can do this well

a Subjob note: it is almost always a big NO to using a melee/mage or mage/melee combination
ie never EVER use WAR/WHM (Warrior/White Mage) unless you plan on playing solo, and even then... the white mage part reduces the Warriors attack and other warrior friendly stats, and Warrior only gains Cure out of the combo, and it isn't really even a good cure as the MND stat is low, as well as the fact that the MP will be minimal...
But then again WAR/WHM is the only job combo I hate seeing, but if you still want to do that, then by all means do it... my policy is if you can make a combo work, then use it to the fullest. but I can assure you, you won't be getting many party invites with WAR/WHM.

but there are exceptions to this rule, but I'm not going to get into that here.

WARRIOR

Job abbreviation: WAR
Weapon of choice: Axe; Great Axe
What item type this job will spend more gil on: Armor, Food (Sushi)
This job's role in party: (backup) Tank; DD
Most useful (used) job ability: Provoke
Most useful job trait: *unable to determine*
2hr: Mighty Strikes
2hr's function: Causes all attacks to become critical hits for a short time

Notes:
WAR is the basic DD job, and early on, is used as a tank*. STR, VIT, and DEX are a WAR's best friend stat-wise. Enmity (the hidden stat that affects the hate of monsters) is also a WAR's friend when the WAR is called to tank, and Provoke does just that, gives a massive enmity boost and causes the monster to go straight for the "voker". After reaching level 15, WAR gets the job ability Berserk, which enhances attacks, but drops defense, truly a DD style technique. As a subjob, WAR is often used with Paladin, as Paladin needs to be able to use Provoke. In fact most melee jobs can benefit from using WAR as a subjob, but once a player can use Ninja, that often replaces WAR for best subjob rights. But a WAR sub is necessary when leveling up Ninja. The WAR's 2hr, Mighty Strikes, is used to speed up the kill with massive critical hits, and, like most 2hr abilities, should be used only in a state of emergency. When solo, WAR should use 2hr when the situation looks grim, and the WAR still has some decent HP left, as, even though its attacks may hurt, this technique is useless if the WAR cannot hit the target. In a party, the WAR should use this when the party hits a period of peril (ie the healer has fallen, or the party needs to be healed, but healer out of MP so target needs to be taken out quickly, but still has a bit of HP... you know, situations that call for it.) Also WAR has a few sword WS's that can only be used while playing or subbing WAR.

Personal note:
I don't care for leveling WAR, but I have to so I can level my Ninja so I can continue to level up my Thief. This isn't to say I can't level it up, but I do have a lousy level up habit (seriously if I put all my time on FFXI leveling, I'd have at least 2 jobs at level 75 with a fully leveled subjob on each, but my highest job is Thief at only 45-48 i forget, and my Ninja is underleveled at level 22.) Currently my WAR is at level 11, and I use a Great Axe. I sub WAR with my Thief as Ninja sub is worthless at such low level... (subjob is always only half the level of main. ie if I sub Thief to WAR, even though it is in the 40's, as a sub to WAR it would be reduced to 5). At least Thief has Evasion boost trait at level 5... and Steal, but I rarely have the inventory space to steal anything.

*Tank: the role of keeping the hate and taking all the hits from a monster while in a party

This Is all for now, i'll continue another time
