Quote:
dyne:bolic is a GNU/Linux distribution running from a CD and able to recognise most of your devices and peripherals: sound, video, TV, network cards, firewire, USB devices and more. It is shaped on the needs of media activists, artists and creative individuals, a practical tool for multimedia production. You can manipulate and broadcast both sound and video with tools to record, edit, encode and stream, all using free software!

I saw the 2.1 release announcement and it seemed pretty interesting and wanted to see if others have heard about it. If I ever wanted to try music production (maybe next year) would probably try this out. I'm not expecting that anyone has tried it so instead I'll ask: as a lesser-known distro would you expect the overall quality to be good or not?

I have heard of Dynabolic(excuse my spelling)
back in the days when i was still stuck to windows...i accidentally downloaded Dynabolic thinking that it was a video editor not a whole operating system, and back then my "typical windows user brain" couldnt figure out how to burn a ISO disk image...so i havent really tried it but...i heard that its pretty good. Even so i still prefer Ubuntu over any other distribution out there...

I've tried it, its ok. Its not really for multimedia creation as it is for things like VJ's and DJ's(doing stuff live). What I don't like is that alot of the tools on it are command line, which doesn't really work well. And if you're doing stuff on the spot at the show, one typo could screw the whole thing. I also did not like the GUI, which I believe was X-FCE or IceWM. But it did have several apps that were pretty cool, like several drum-machines and loop-based music creators.
