Before the Cathedral Ship, Nephilim says to Shion that "It may soon be too late for him", and "ultimately it's his decision", and "you'll be able to understand him, that should bring some comfort to him", my guess is that the player is supposed to assume that she's referring to Cherenkov, but I have a theory that maybe she means chaos.
Now, I admit it, I'm only partway through episode II, so there might still be something in there that'll destroy my theory. ^^;
Anyway, I'm guessing she might mean chaos because she kept on saying to him later in the game "What will you do? It's your choice" etc, and the comfort line could coincide with what she said to Shion later on, that "She's bound to KOS-MOS and chaos" (something like that anyway)
Despite this, I will be the first to criticize my theory. ^^;
A couple of problems with it is that it shows Cherenkov being all screwy in the Cathedral Ship and then she says more urgently to Shion that "his time is almost up". It doesn't look like this could refer to chaos, as it doesn't seem like whatever he could be doing could've been affected between the time on the Elsa and arriving on the Ship.
And there's probably something else wrong, but nothing comes to mind. ^^; Anyway, as I've said, something in episode II could completely destroy my theory... (or, perhaps, back it up?) Anyway, thoughts on this? Agreement to my theory? Reasons why it can't work? (Note that if there IS something in episode II that screws this up, please don't say what that is... Just comment that it doesn't work because of an event in II.)

The sense of ergency isn't about chaos. You've already said that, but that's the main key.
Maybe you'll be able to understand him in his final moments. well... er... when the third game comes out- play that.
and although it didn't seem like she understood, the chemestry between them made it seem that he was the guy Nephilim was talking about.
