hallo~ I'm not sure if this is where this goes or not, but I'm gonna give it a shot.
Do y'all know how I can update Ubuntu- and if it would require wiping everything? I'm not going to update if it means losing my data [I don't really have a way to back up], but I've had this particular version since about this time last year, and I'd like to be a tad more up-to-date.

I tried installing the ubuntu metapackage stuff or whatever, and it spits out:
Quote: kandace@Sister:~$ sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading extended state information Initializing package states... Done E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. E: Unable to correct dependencies, some packages cannot be installed E: Unable to resolve some dependencies! Some packages had unmet dependencies. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following packages have unmet dependencies: ubuntu-desktop: Depends: gaim but it is not installable
What's this neutral ?

You using GNOME or KDE or X? If you have gnome you don't have to do it.
No, I got Ubuntu the day after they went to 6.06 so I didn't have to do it. But many people have done it on the linux forums

OP; Ubuntu Updater(the built in one) should have a window pop up every now and then to tell you A: there's new updates(and you should install them) and B: there's a new version of Ubuntu out. It should have a link you can follow to upgrade to 6.06.

Saying so still implies that she uses the X server, which there is no way that she doesn't(I rarely see people that don't use it. And they're only advanced users, at that).

I've never gotten pop-ups saying there's updates that I can recall...
