Post your thoughts on the Hunter Exam Arc here.
Here's a brief summary thanks to wikipedia.
In the first major story arc, Gon takes a series of bizarre tests to become a Hunter himself, which include such things as navigating a deadly jungle, hunting other applicants, killing a wild boar, and making sushi. During the Hunter Test, Gon meets and befriends three of the other applicants, Kurapika, Killua and Leorio.
Another of the applicants in the Hunter Test is Hisoka, a complex villain who uses playing cards as weapons, and who views Gon as an "unripe fruit" that he will take great pleasure in killing once he's grown up enough to present a challenge.

i love the first arc.... i realize that it is almost the first half of the actual anime, but how the characters are introduced just keeps me interested. i also realize that the anime does have more parts to the exam than the manga provides which in my opinion is pretty good. I have noticed that some anime try to add more in with filler episodes and it just doesn't work out, however Hxh it actually works well in. When i first saw Hisoka and learned of his abilities... i kind of believe that maybe Togashi sensei might have tried modeling him off of Utsukushii Matoka suzuki... you know the clown who used cards in the YYH series... Well really he only threw one and it worked in a similar way of Hisoka's... Perhaps i am wrong about that, but it seems rather plausible... except the personalities are quite different.

Yeah. I really enjoyed the way they introduced the characters in the anime. It added a bit more depth to them and was a whole lot of fun either way. x3 Although I would have liked to see Killua gulping down Tonpa's laxative juice in anime form; that would have been hilarious. ^^
The extras were indeed very fun in HxH. And they really kept to the story and allowed it to evolve instead of just distracting people from the fact that their isn't enough plot. Especially when it came to the extra phase in the exam. Everything that went on in those few episodes really added to the characters and deepened their bonds. It was also nice to see a bit more of Hanzo too. x3

windlily Although I would have liked to see Killua gulping down Tonpa's laxative juice in anime form oh... i would have love to seen that too. i was kind of disappointed when they didn't show it. it just made Killua seem a lot cooler since he could take stuff like that and be unaffected.

I really enjoyed it 'cause it was Killua playing innocent. It's so much fun to watch Killua fein innocence. He seems just like Gon, yet still sinister somehow. ^^
It would have been fun to see Gon spit it all up too. x3

Hmm...the 4th test would be my favorite of the Hunter exam. Nonetheless, all of them were great, and it would be nice to watch over again biggrin

i am in the mood to watch the series too... i am currently not home, but before i left... I grabbed up all my Hxh dvds and took them with me. i really can't recall which part you are referring to, but no fears... I will go watch and then share in your amusement.
