This post will show what will and Will not be put into the game
PostPosted: Thu Jul 20, 2006 1:08 pm

Game Ideas that are NOT going to get added.

Player vs Player, Cooperative Multiplay: We would love to add this, but this will be in the next big game. The battle engine and server are simply not equipped to support this. This also makes in-game chat superfluous, so don't expect that anytime soon, either -- stick to the out-of-game IRC chat.

More servers, server slots, etc.: If and when AQ can afford it, these things may be done, but they are often so costly that they cannot be done at all. Please stop asking or suggesting anything related to the game's login engine or resources. This includes waiting lists, limited login times, etc.

Downloadable version: Not really possible, due to the way AQ constantly interacts with the server, among other reasons.

Codes/Cheats: No. Never. Why cheat in an online game?

More slots for weapons/armor/spells: No. Part of the strategy of the game is having a limit on the number of available items you can carry in battle.

Trading: Tricky to implement. Maybe we'll see it someday, but most likely, we won't.

EXP rollover: No. XP does not rollover for numerous reasons, and it won't be changed.

Music: It was decided that AQ not have music. Our musicians are working on music for DragonFable instead.

A way to keep Temporary items: No. Temporary items are usually far too powerful to keep, hence they are temporary. Some quests do allow you to obtain permanent weaponry, but many existing temporary weapons are too powerful to merely let you keep afterward.

More items or stats should be free: This is highly unbalancing in almost every way. Every once in a while the staff will release certain special items for free, for a VERY limited amount of time, but don't suggest that things be priced for free without a darn good reason of why they should be. Stats will never be free if things stay as they are now.

An Uber Weapon/Armor that would render the other items weak: This would make the game pointless and unbalancing, and would remove the strategy from it. Even level 100+ characters should not be given a ridiculous advantage over everyone else. This means no 10-100 weapons, no armors with less than 20% to any element, etc.

New elements: Sorry, no. This would require adding new data to every shield, armor, and enemy file in the game.

"Frozen enemies shouldn't be able to block!": Yes they should, and this will not change.

Auto-attack: No. Removing 99.9% of the game's interaction just makes it a virtual farming ground.

X-Guardian equipment: Galanoth has assured us that there will be no new "X-Guardian" content that is excluded from normal guardians. X-Guardian exclusive equipment would be exclusionary, so will not be accepted.

X-Guardian Money Boost: I'm not saying the idea is impossible, but the staff are well aware people like to get more reward for less work. Suggesting it really isn't needed, so don't. Furthermore, it's unlikely for anything to ever be added to the X-Guardian offer. I'm not saying it's impossible, but don't count on it.

Anything including or relating to free guardianship or x-guardianship: This will never happen. The game will never include anything that allows anyone to gain free guardianship. YET, there may be special offers which allow for reduced Guardianship, but that rarely happens. When it does, it will be posted on www.BattleOn.com

Dialogue Bypassing: Dialogue is there for several reasons. First is to build storyline and a interesting experience. Second is to slow down the chain farmers. Most of the time the dialogue is intended to slow you down, such as in the case of the War of the Fangs: Intro 3 or the Leeroy Jenkins quest. Without these dialogue blockers, people would be getting insane amount of experience and gold a day, hitting the level caps without fail. This isn't really what these quests were intended for and no such changes will occur.

No-Animation Option: Similar to dialogue skipping, an option to remove the animation from the game and reduce it to mere number projection will not be implemented. Graphics make up a huge part of the game. Don't expect them to disappear for any reason.

Element X Symbol: A unique damage symbol for element X. Due to the way the damage display works, this is currently not possible, but could be integrated someday if that system is reengineered.

More ways to get / Complaints about the Guardian Darkzard: Not interested. The answer is no.

More ways to get / Complaints about Z-tokens: Not interested. The answer is no.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

High priority ideas that are actively being worked on!

Item Storage: Storage for extra inventory items in a "bank" in town. Coming next major upgrade.

Reorganizeable Inventory Slots: With storage, sorting your inventory becomes possible. However, your non-drop items will always be at the top spot, and can not be stored in your bank storage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Medium priority ideas that will be worked on eventually.

Pet Level Ups: Some more changes to pets are on the way. Some pets already scale to be more powerful depending on your level.

Weapon Level Ups: This is being worked on. Some weapons already scale to be more or less powerful, depending on your level. Weapons gaining experience or otherwise having their power increased is being worked on.

Races: It's not a question of what races we want, so much as how races ought to be done and whether they can be done at all.

More faces: Yes, eventually.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good ideas that might get added someday:

More Special Weapon Effects: For example, light damage that blinds the target, dark acid or fire damage that weakens armor.

Buying potions: Working on it. Captain Rhubarb has expressed an interest in it and may integrate it someday.

Dual wielding & Two handed swords: Currently not possible, but we could someday see something.

No Drop spell: A default spell slot that could be used for temporary quest rewards.

Day/Night Cycle: A game clock that runs faster than real time. Different day & night graphics for the towns. Time of day affects random monster encounters.

More Healing Moglins: Add a healing option to all of the Moglins in Town.

Male/Female armors: Most armors are gender neutral. Male/female specification might be added someday, but it would require creating two versions of every armor.

AdventureQuest-based video game, anime, etc.: Sorry, but the programming, contractual work, animation, etc, etc, etc, is simply far too much. Making a video game is not something that we can just snap our fingers and make happen. Same goes for an anime or any other major commercial production. While it's not impossible, it's not something that'll happen just because someone suggests it.

Levelable Items

Here's the current plan, but I have no idea when we'll be adding this to the game:

Every time you win a battle, one of your weapons, spells, or pets will gain a small amount of XP.
The more you use a specific item in battle, the more likely that item will get the XP.

After that item has earned enough XP, the item will level up to a new "Power Level"
Higher Power Level items will either hit more often, or do more damage. (not sure which yet)

Armors, Shields, and Misc items won't earn XP

So, someday, you might have to choose between using your old high Power Level item, versus using a brand new powerful, but not leveled-up yet item.

"This new Katana of Death Striking is awesome!!"
"Yeah, but can it out-perform my +50 powerlevel Long Sword!"

I don't like that idea. It is really just a way for them to get adventurers to stop crying for five minutes.......

Sorry. I was referring to the idea above me about levelable weapons.

They've been planning that for well over 2 years now. They've just never done it.

Orginally the BOA was a Random lottery giveaway to Guardians before they put it into the game. It was supposed to be the first levelable weapon.
Then about 2 months after I joined they gave all guardians a chance to get it.

I don't know though. If they just make it hit more often, that is fine. However, adding damage will totally throw off the balance of the game. It will also make it a pain in the a** for rating characters.

Then they need to STOP making items that are available for a limited time, or in a limited quantity. The entire POINT of that kind of thing is to show off to other players, in-game.

Not interested. Way to show you care, guys! Once again, I've been validated that online game devs are useless idiots.

Congrats on proving your theory.

Anyway, the limited quantity is just not fair at all. Most times they don't even announce it, and alot of people are not online when they release the item.

It's about time they do the banking thing, I can't wait for that. I hate selling a weapon that's good for a weapon that sucks just because I don't have room and I don't know what it can do. (happen with my Crescent Blade). Leveling weapons, spells, and pets is a great idea though.
