What kind of gem is it? Other than magical of course. Maybe use a spin of the name or something...?

Make it precious something. Like precious Tsavorite. (s-av'-o-rite)( An intense, emerald-like green grossular found only in Kenya and Tanzania. Its color is caused by the presence of vanadium and chromium. Moderately rare in fine stones above a carat or two.)
