Any fans of Wong Kar-wai? He was my portal to contemporary Asian films starting with Chungking Express. An art/indie house favorite, his movies tend to focus on a lot of ad-libbing by his actors (you'll notice that he uses a lot of the same actors for his films, notably Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Maggie Cheung), cinematography by the wonderful Christopher Doyle, music by Frankie Chan (I think he only did Chungking Express and Fallen Angels, not sure about this but will look it up), and voiceovers.

Director (imdb):

# Eros (2004) (post-production) (segment "La Mano")
# 2046 (2004)
# Six Days (2002) (V) - DJ Shadow music video heart
# Hire: The Follow, The (2001) (as wkw) - BMW Films
# In the Mood for Love (2000) (France) (Hong Kong: English title) (USA)
# Happy Together (1997/I) (Hong Kong: English title) (USA)
# Fallen Angels (1997/II) (USA)
# Ashes of Time (1994)
# Chungking Express (1995) (USA)
# Days of Being Wild (1991) (Hong Kong: English title)
# As Tears Go By (198 cool

Wong Kar-wai NEWS

I tend to get email updates whenever WKW appears in any articles. During Cannes, it was crazy. So this space is reserved for any news concerning WKW's upcoming projects.

There have been rumours that WKW is planning on a Bruce Lee biography. Tony Leung Chiu Wai is rumoured to star in the film, but I'm doubtful he'll be portraying Bruce Lee.

I have that Tarantino edition thing of Chungking Express on DVD and I love it.

Which story arc do you prefer? The first one with the cop and the conwoman or the second one with the .. cop and the waitress?

I like the first one better. biggrin

I like them both. I like Bridgette Lin and Takeshi Kaneshiro's part because of the pineapple scenes, including the one where he asks her if she likes pineapple in 3 different languages.

I like Faye Wong and Tony Leung Chiu-wai's part because of Faye's character. She was just spunky and cute and I love the sound of her voice. I also love Tony talking to all the items in his house (ie, the bar of soap, the towel, the Garfield doll).

Oh, and I think there's a scene where you see Lin waiting outside a store and then Faye walks out carrrying the Garfield doll.

Me too.

I think my favorite part in the whole movie is when the Takeshi/Lin story arc ends and Takeshi sits down and smiles. Or when he leaves his cellphone clipped on the fence and he walks away... and then it rings.

i mostly liked when they showed Takeshi Kaneshiro. like when he was massaging the pig. lol

i also liked when they showed him and his father. those were my favorite parts. especially the filming with the videocamera. so sad... crying

Yes, for a while, Fallen Angels was my absolute favorite Wong Kar-wai film. I thought Chris Doyle's cinematography was just amazing. His shots are almost becoming cliche now since they don't seem as innovative, but you can say that about a lot of other cinematographers. For instance, the scene at the restaurant with Kaneshiro and Charlie with the rain effect and he's just going over her in this loving/longing manner. That scene was ripped off by a Goo Goo Dolls video, "Slide". I also love the up close fish lens that they use for a lot of the shots, too. Especially with Michelle Reis (the Agent).

I HATED the Blondie part though. I am not a huge fan of Karen Mok. I enjoyed her playfulness, such as the kind she displayed when it was raining. I didn't like the angsty scenes she had with Leon Lai, though. Blecch. Those scenes just destroy the movie, IMO.

"BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The Venice Film Festival has published its shortlist which includes a short film titled "Love God" by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai, reported CRIENGLISH.com.

The half hour flick was co-directed by Wong Kar-wai and other two world masters, Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni and American Steven Soderbergh.

The film stars Chinese actress Gong Li, famous for Raise the Red Lantern, and actor Zhang Zhen who appeared in the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Thank you. I wonder when that film will be released in theaters here. I'm anxious to see it.

They sure showed a lot of different characters in that trailer. Some of them might've been the same but the quality wasn't that good. I wonder how WKW is going to flesh each and every one of them out.

I haven't heard anything about it since it made it's festival run. I guess it won't be coming to theaters yet.
