The following info about RPing was original made by dedicated members of the Tales of the Night guild.

Before you enter a Village, you pass through the Ninja Academy. You may or may not stop; the choice is up to you. But should you think that you need to train before facing the Village's many faces, you may stop here and train a while, honing your skills and becoming better at the art of RPing...

"Alright, kids, listen up. This here place is where you'll all learn to RP. Everyone is permitted to contribute to lessons, and if you see something here that you need to fix in your own RPing, by all means, FIX IT! People get very very ticked off when other people aren't considerate in their RPs. Now, let the lessons begin. I reserve the right to bite the head off of anyone who is being an idiot and refusing to acknowledge that they need some practice. And we all need practice, so there. Enter the Ninja Academy..."

First Lesson: Godmoding and Autoing

GODMODER: A person who makes an unbeatable character who can never be injured, killed, or harmed in any way, shape, or form. Basically, their character is a god. RPing with or against one of these characters is NOT fun. Don't make them.

AUTOER: A person who "autos" another person's character. This means they control another person's character's words, actions, or pretty much anything else. If it's not your character, it's not your say. Got it? Good.

Example of Autoing:

Fred is Player 1's character. Amy is Player 2's character.

Player 1
Fred picks up a rock and throws it at Amy. It hits her hard and knocks her unconcious.

"The proper thing to do would have been to end the post after the first sentence. No one can control another person's character unless that person says they can."

"...For every student is a teacher."

"Yes, I am here for another instruction. So shut up, sit down, and sharpen your ears. I will now share what little I have of wisdom with you.

TO be a good RPer, it's important to get in character. Now, getting in character sounds pretty easy, but it's tougher than what most people think. I have a list of 150 different characters that I have played for the past... *thinks for a moment* ...10 or so years, so I know what I am talking about. The important thing is to know your character. What kind of person is he/she? What kind of interests has he/she? What feelings lies within? The more details you know, the better. Then, do some training where you simply explore the character to see how he/she reacts in certain situations. Many might think this sounds stupid, but it actually helps if you want a good character. And having a good character is one of the things that make you a good RPer.

Then, you become the character. Try taking an entire day and dedicate it to being that character. Learn how the character is to be played, even in RL situations. And when you start RPing with the character, you automaticly know how to RP. It's important to imagine that the RP is somewhat real, and then act on how you know you'd act when being that character. Of course, don't go mixing fantasy with reality as that might become disaster. But to some certain point, you need to be a part of what you're playing. Keep your mind open and let the imagination take control for a while.

Now, I've mostly done pen and paper RPing and not online RPing like we do in here, so I'm used to the more intense feeling of being in character. I often compare it to acting, but on a more imaginative level, if you understand what I mean. Some of the players I've RPed with IRL often take long moments to prepare themselves and get in character before we start RPing. After years of practice, I don't do that anymore, but I recomend it to everyone! Take a moment to re-set your mind and become the character before starting. It helps.

Why do all this?
Because when your really in character, it's easier to RP better as your actions become more real than just stiff words your typing without meaning. And you give more personality to the character, which automaticly makes the RP more exciting and interesting to the people you RP with as well as yourself."

"Lesson 3
What you know and what your character knows

Its important to remember that the information you as a player has is not always what the character has.
For example, if a character has 'gone bad' only infront of one other person then no other RPG character should know about the motives of the character except the one that was present.

Lesson 4
Literate or not literate...?

There is no one way to RP.
That said, it is all up to the player how to express a character's actions. But, it helps greatly if the description is in proper grammer, or atleast spelled correctly.
Example:
Good: Soda ran up the stair, his heart pounding as he moved.
Bad: He runned up, his punding heart when he moved.

I know that's an extreme case. But still."

"Be aware of your character
An important thing when RPing online like this is to know at every moment where your character is. That way you don't end up doing the stupid mistake of entering a room twice. Trust me, that get confusing. Make a note, even if it's just a mental one, of where your last left your character. What I usually do is that I find somewhere to let her sleep if I am to leave for the night. That way, I can start Rping again as she wakes up.
KNowing where your character are at all given times is an important factor when roleplaying, I believe. If your leave and know you'll be back in a few, then just find something that will occupy the character while you're away. Like letting it sit and listen to some conversation (which means you have to read through the entire conversation when you get back), or let it work on something. If you leave and is uncertain if you'll be coming back, then find something more permanent to occupy the character. In most cases, it would be best to just leave the place allthogether. Being on top of things like that is important to be able to roleplay your character better."
