A chobits complex is an anime or manga that looks a little like Chobits. Like Dears. The anime of Dears is like Chobits its just that Ren isnt a robot but a alien. and like Hideki, Takeya is a fustated male that soon stays with Ren in the end.

so what do you think does anyone else have any Chobits complex's

I said something like that in a journal of mine when I first read Dears, and then analysed Shoujo paterns. Picks any frustrated/intelectually-lacking/homophobic/tough/nice guy and have them find an alien/robotic comatosed/braindead/catatonic/amnesiac gorgeous/pubecent/busty/naked/willing/nympho girl. Inuyasha has used the pattern. Final Fantasy games have used the pattern. Every pubescent boy wants the pattern :p

Ah! My Goddess practically invented the modern version of the genre, and is so deep-seated in its throne that even Chobits can't really compare.

DearS, if you were to ask me what I thought, comes off like some overly fanservicey parody of Chobits, and subsequently can't hold a candle to Chobits. To me, putting DearS next to Chobits is a bit like putting pork rinds next to truffles.

Urusei Yatsura is an earlier, hilarious version of the whole genre, with Lum, a much more competent, yet extremely violent and unstable alien than Ren playing what is loosely the magical girlfriend...and causing mass, episodic havoc as the series continues. An oldie but a goodie, and one to watch if you like the magical girlfriend genre.

Chobits...where to put it? It's the 21st century version of the genre, and with only 26 episodes, highly likable characters and next to no hope for a sequel, it's the James Dean of magical girlfriend anime. One moment it's there, next...it's gone. It's in the hands of fans like us now...

I have dears just cause it reminds me of chobits.

I've read the first of Dear, got it at this comic store which was doing a promotion of buy 2 Vol 1s of manga series for the price of 1. So I choce Someday Dreamer, Dears, RG Veda and Alice 19th. I can say that Someday Dreamer isn't get any more of my money, I was ... somewhat taken aback on ... well, lacking the story, just didn't have the debt of emotion I was looking for. The girl is much more implausibly innocent then normal manga/anime, and i'm using Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket as the epitamy of the innocent girl routine (I am not counting the innocent girls that every manga or anime show some panties, they don't count.) Dears, interested me in a weird, not really want to spend money on it now, maybe later kind of way. I was wondering if the common thread for these manga/anime would be turned into a different twist, like Chobits, which is not comparable at all to Ah! My Goddess. Chobits made me feel something other then ... well ... the funny in Chobits is more thought out ... and I've read every AMG mangas/animes/doujinshis(last doesn't really count), there some Chobits fills in the emotional bar that just makes it ... fulfilling. Anyway, RG Veda intrigues me because it's Clamp ... and well, it has an odd story that I want to see finish. Alice 19th, sorry to say, but I have to compare it to Cardcaptors, and ... Cardcaptors win out, but still remains in my, will maybe by later when I get all the volumes of Kare Kano (one more left), Fruits basket (8 more left) and Gravitation (2 more left). Oh, let's not forget my Boys Before Flowers (umpteent more left ... 20 I think :p) Anyway, enough of a rant from me.

Some of the earlier folks come back! It's good to see you post AS! Also, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World DEFINITELY uses the following recipe:

1) Take typical genre story (unlucky boy meets beautiful girl(s) )
2) Put in blender
3) Add a sprinkling of Evangelion and Fooly Cooly
4) Blend at insanely high speed until splashing out everywhere.

So...until the girl gets a personality reminiscent of a mix of Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu, it can be put in the same genre as Chobits. Afterwards it gets put into the same pile as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Serial Experiments Lain for the nuttiness level.

By the way, this is a one time post by me while I'm off of my boat. Good to see y'all!

Um, I'm not sure what you mean by an anime that looks like Chobits. Do you mean it resembles Chobits, like in storyline or appearance? Um, this anime called To Heart, I haven't seen all of it but I know that it also has a robotic girl that looks like a persocom. She even has similar ears. Also in the anime Elfen Lied, in the beginning they find this girl and all she can say is "nyu". So they name her Nyu, much like Hideki names Chii cuz she says "chii". Maharomatic also has a robot girl that ends up living with a guy.
