Now, whenever I'm not on the computer for more then a day, it feels like a while. And when it's a week, I feel like its long enough for internet community people to forget my screen name. Such was the case this past week. I wanna make another thread, cause that past week, I recently got my driver's license, but this thread is for what happened when I got that license on Tuesday... VIRUS

Or more exactly, Trojan.

For the past 5 or so days, I've been waging total war against a trojan that e-mailed tons of people at one time. My only saving grace was that they never finished completely cause of my virus scan. Unfortunately, the processes were still done, and my desktop was covered in "Scanning message 1 of 1"

Needless to say, I was screwed

Why was I screwed? The processes lagged my entire computer to the point that it'd take a few minutes just for one window to open up, from my desktop

I tried waiting it out: Wasted my life

I booted my computer to my virus scan disc: A file called "_Restore/TEMP" had more then 100,000 files in it, and each took forever (cost two days of scanning)

Finally, I figured it out. I disconnected my DSL connect manually (You know. Unplugging it) then miraculously, it didn't email anyone, with the exception of porn sites automatically openning up. I then opened my virus scan manually, which was faster, and wiped them out via total war.

Topic? Have you ever dealt with some truely frustrating virus or trojan infections?

Nope never been silly enough to get infected.

If someone sends me an e-mail or file over an IM service I can usualy tell if its actually coming from them or if its just because they have a virus.
Usualy its "hmm my friends don't type like that" or "Why the hell is this person e-mailing me this i never talk to them"

And accepting small .exe files from anyone is plain retarded.

...protection is still always a good idea though

Kirby: Congrats for actually getting rid of this nasty virus.

Well, my mom's computer had one hilarious virus that swapped the word "thus" into "my teacher's dumb" in her MS Word's documents.

My boyfriend also had a virus in his comp that turns puts all his application in a common folder while replacing them with a shortcut with a Swiss cheese icon on it. He got rid of it by reinstalling his computer ghost on it.

I had a whole bunch once.
But my smart computer friend fixed it for me.
And now I've got all these nifty anti-virus programs that work.
So. Nuffin' bad.
Yet. .__.;;

When this computer was first connected to the internet, it didn't have any protaction. Then it got upgraded to braodband, and seemed to go even slower than dial up. It didn't help that something blocked things from installing and Task Manager from opening, as well as it slowing my connection down so much that I couldn't download new installation files, as well as it using up the monthly allowance for the Broadband thingy. Eventually, I managed to get into Task Manager some how, and sorted it out a bit, and now it seems fine. smile

Sasser worm. My a** got sassed, exactly 11 months and a day ago.

Thankfully, symantec loves me. Got rid of it within twenty-four hours.

Right now ... I am dealing with Sub7.
The one that moves itself around antivirus and makes itself bleh.

The main executable was deleted upon receiving, ... but apparently it did something...
Antivirus going crazy with files popping up from temp folder from sub7, but I can't get rid of it.
I looked it up all over, but apparently the registry, and files, that are suppose to be there from the program, aren't.

So I don't know.

Frustrated.

Oh woh is my beautifully protected war machine. I've got it decked out with anti-virus, firewall, adware protection, firefox, and a block happy trigger finger. In other words. Nothing runs on my computer unless I say it gets to run.

Can't say I have.

I did find a little virus while doing a random scan once, though. 3nodding I don't know how long it was there, but it didn't stay long enough to infect anything except the single file it was on...

All you have to do for that is change the AutoCorrect, find the word Thus and fix it up X3

I discovered the joys of AutoCorrect in highschool. And told a bunch of my friends. And we all went around to a bunch of computers in teh computer lab and changed a bunch of words and names is MS Word so that if somebody typed, for example, Mr. VonStupidheadpretendteachername, it would change into Mr. Pervert or something like that. Or intentional misspellings or whatever. XD (p***s)

only probbie was that other ppl figured out how we did it, or got told, or whatever, and started changing things to really objectionable things, and we got blamed. D:

and we had to go through the entire AutoCorrect dictionary thing and change back all the words that were misspelled/replaced

Never had a virus, but I had some nasty spyware. It was some... really nasty, famous trojan whose name I forget. It made my computer go hella slow and kept redirecting me to some weird site. I tried everything to get it off. Adaware. Adaware in Safe-Mode. Manual deletion of registry files in safemode as instructed by Bazooka. Downloading and running a program made solely for the deletion of this trojan. Rollback to an earlier date. Nothing worked. The little ******** kept evolving.

So I backed up my hard drive and reformatted my computer. It got rid of the trojan, but I lost all of my files. I had to choose the one corrupt disc out of 20 to put all my precious memories on. crying

I had this problem where if I would click a link anywhere on Gaia, it would pop up into a porn add. gonk

My boyfriend and I tried everything imaginable, but just couldn't fix it. Finally I switched to FireFox ((I had been using I.E. at the time)) and haven't had the problem since.

I probably have viruseses that are eating my poor machine alive but I'm oblivious because nothing out of the ordinary is wrong. n_n No antivirus junk for me, yayayayay.

I don't think I've had anything fatal, and if I have, it's not done anything fatal that I've notice. Maybe I should get around to getting an antivirus.

Oh, I had that MSBlaster bullshit thing where it executed the shutdown code in winXP to restart your computer with that little box that says "HAHA I'M RESTARTING AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO", and a bunch of my friends got hit with it.. thankfully we got it when the patch was already released, got that on and it worked fine, I was the first one to be saved, so then I saved all of them. XD
