Dacian was being lazy.

There, he admitted it. Not out loud, but that was besides the point.

But what could this laziness be? He was still doing his work at the garden, so it couldn't be that. No, his laziness was instead linked to the guardians. Normally, his duties would be meeting and introducing himself to each guardian - but he hadn't done that yet.

He was starting to feel a bit guilty about it, actually.

And that was why the cheerful man was heading towards one of the buildings, with all intentions of going door to door like some sort of demented salesman.

Just not as scary.

Tristan was being lazy too.

Well... not really, he was being depressed. Because of his depression, he still had unpacking to do, a paper to work on and some other things he was sure he had to do but couldn't remember them at the moment. So it worked to call him lazy too.

So why was he out on a walk. Well Hamlet of course, the cure to all Tristan's lazyness. If Tristan tried to just sit around for too long the dog would get impatiant and start nipping at what ever part of Tristan he could get at.

They were on their return now and Tristan was hardly paying attention. He held his lighter in hand and was fiddling with it, leaving the navigation to Hamlet, the puppy knew the way home by now.

He didn't notice Dacian heading towards his building, hell he wouldn't have noticed if Big Foot walked by.

Dacian's eyes roved over the area, taking in with pleasure his work on the landscaping. Sure, it was self-indulgent - but if he wanted to take a few moments to smell the roses that he had planted, he was going to.

And it was then that he caught sight of a dog. And a man, but it was the dog he saw first.

So the man began to making his way towards that duo, thinking that even if the man turned out to be just visiting a guardian, he was at least going to greet the dog. Dogs were fun.

"Hello!"

Cheerfully said, and with a wave as he drew closer.

Flip the lighter open, flip the lighter closed. It had his attention completely, that was until the 'Hello'. He looked up from the bit of silver metal in his hand to see Dacian.

He managed to pull a polite smile on his face and waved a little himself. "Hello," he said with about half as much cheerfulness as he himself had recieved. People usually cheered him up but when he didn't know someone it took a little longer.

Hamlet approached this man slowly. He had met nice people at the compound so he was becoming less afraid of new people. In his dog's logic, if one person in a place was nice, all of them were.

"Cute dog."

Once Dacian reached the duo, his first action was to kneel down closer to the dogs level, and extend his hand to it. Not to pet it - but rather, to let it smell him. Always a good way to greet a dog, so long as it wasn't a hungry one. Or just a psychopathic one.

Then he grinned up at the man, before explaining why he - a random stranger - had just come up to him.

"I'm Dacian, one of the mages here...are you a guardian? I was planning on going around and meeting some of the new ones."

Hamlet's wet nose twitched as he sniffed this stranger's hand. Upon deciding the Dacian smelt like a good guy, he nudged the mage's hand as an attempt to get the man to start petting him.

"His name is Hamlet," Tristan said. He realized that most of the people he had met was because of Hammie. Well at least the dog was good for something other than being cute and making slober.

"Yes I am a guardian, its nice to meet you. Tristan Kane,"
he said. He held out his hand to shake with otu even thinking. Manners were habit now. "One of the mages? Your the first one I've met."

Standing, Dacian shook the offered hand before returning his hands to Hamlet and petting the dog.

"It's nice to meet you then, Tristan!"

Then he grimaced at those words.

"Ahhh...that's probably my fault. Hadrian does a lot of work in the labs, and that steals away most of his time," and still was having some sort of trouble...hm, he needed to remember to speak with him soon, "And Ahneta is - usually busy."

But more it was just that she didn't care to introduce herself to guardians, unless they seemed interesting.

"And as for me, well...I'm afraid I've been a bit lazy lately."

His smile this time had taken a sheepish tinge,

"Its not a bad thing, I was just... stating a fact," Tristan felt a little bad about saying the thing about meeting the mages now. Dacian didn't seem as happy any more.

"Lazy isn't a bad thing," He said, as it to apologize for the comment without actually saying the words 'I'm sorry'. "I've been lazy myself. My apartment is still covered in boxes."

Yes this was definately a good guy in Hamlet's opinion, right up there with Gavin, who was of course his all time favourite because of the late night feeding. His tounge lolled out a content look on the puppy's face.

Dacian may have downed from his ever-present cheeriness a bit, but he certainly perked back up easily enough. He was the sort of person that was difficult to keep down.

"So, how do you like your apartment? Any problems?"

He would need to know as he was the one who fixed the problems, after all. But hopefully there wouldn't be any actual problems.

Gods forbid he had to do something with the plumbing...he'd probably destroy it all, before he was willing to call in a real plumber.

"The apartment is great. And the rent free thing is a god sent," Tristan replied. He was starting to cheer up, it was like Dacian's own cheeryness was contagious. "I can't quit my job but I don't have to work as much."

He had started to fiddle with his lighter again, without thinking about it. He couldn't hold onto it for long without playing with it. It calmed his nerves most of the time but when he wasn't nervous at least it kept his hands busy. Right now it was doing the latter.

"Well that's always good, then! Though it'd probably be boring if you didn't have any sort of job. Or, well, that could just be me."

Dacian was used to having an incredible amount of things to do, and never having enough time to do it. If he suddenly had all his time free - he didn't have the slightest idea what he would do.

"And on further thought, it probably is just me. I take care of the grounds, the gardens here - I'm used to always having more work then I can handle, so I'd be at a loss if I had nothing to do."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:11 pm

There was a flicker of a frown on his face. This was a man who looked after the plants? He shook it off quickly though. What he was thinking about had nothing to do with what was going on now.

"I... I know what you mean," Tristan said, happy to have something else to think about. "I was out of work for about half a year and had nothing to do." Nothing but drink but he didn't need to say that to one of the people who was going to be giving him his child. He didn't want it seem like he was an alcholic.

Hamlet suddenly turned his attention back to Tristan. Leaving Dacian and the petting to grab a hold of Tristan's pat leg and start to pull.

Tristan looked down at the dog with a puzzled look. It was rare for the dog to leave someone who was petting him to go back to his owner. Then Tristan remembered he did something for the dog that most people who pet Hamlet didn't. Feed him.

"He's hungry," Tristan muttered, more to himself than to the other man.

"I'd go insane if I had that long with nothing to do..."

Dacian wrinkled his nose at the idea. Hell, if he was stuck with nothing to do for that long - he'd probably wind up destroying his apartment. And then remodeling it, simply because he was bored. Though...if it was situation where he was working and laid off, he probably wouldn't have the money to do that.

But phooey, who cared if he got stuff from salvage yards? He could do things cheaply. It would just be messy.

And if he was that bored, he wouldn't care if it looked bad.

"Hungry?" Oh...that probably meant the other man was leaving. So much for a conversation.

"Probably a good idea to feed him before he decides to start gnawing on your pants, there."

A teasing tone, amused by the dogs actions.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:34 pm

Tristan smiled, had he not been depressed earlier, he'd probably be laughing about now. Gnaw his pants off. The thought amused him. "Hmm, I suppose loosing my pants would be a bad thing. Might be chilly."

Yet the idea of going back to his place wasn't the most appealing. He'd go back and sulk after he finished feeding Hammie and he had been doing that far too much lately. He had just started to cheer up too.

"You could, tag along if you like," Well that had sounded better in his head. "I mean uh, since your bored." Well at least that didn't sound like he was completely desperate for social contact.

"At least you wouldn't have to worry about getting arrested for public indecency here."

Dacian was getting to like this man! Finally someone who actually cracked jokes back at him. Not that it wasn't nice to merely have people laugh at them, but it was fun to have the occasional bantering and interchange of jokes. Well, at least funny things.

Tag along, eh?

"It's that obvious?" the amusement in his tone suggested that either he was being polite and not bringing up Tristan's fumbling, or just hadn't actually noticed, "But that sounds good. I think I'm going to go insane and turn the southeast part of the gardens into a desert garden if I keep having to yank up all the damned weeds. At least if it was a desert garden, there wouldn't be so many of them."

It would just look insanely out of place. But hey - the compound was private property! Wasn't like he'd have people complaining. Or if they did, well...they could get over it.
