Setting:

This clan is small and broken up. The large sahvana planes afford a lot of game and a lot of land so the long tail's natural territorial tendancies can eazily be satisfied.
Thay live in grass huits, fully movable and eazily dismantalable. When fire threatends the tribe moves to the rivers in teh hight of summer.

The grasslands thay live in is mostly tropical dessert like, very hot. There are many rivulets and one main river. Traders may travel them. The Savhana is very large un-charted and has its dangers.. deadly for small kittens to go into unsupervised.

Training takes place on a dry grassy area not far from the huts, there kittens learn from the elders how to be homemakers or hunters.. some special kitten may be taken under wing to become a healer or shamaness..

The Sahvana is currently in:
Spring/summer, Hunting and gathering and teaching is in order.

Kassa: Twirled a stick in the sandy dirt. a light wind tossing her red ruff.
She sighed.

It had been a long lonely monsoon season, the water had been everywhere. She reflected how hard it had been to get a fire started in there soggy grass huts..

But now the hot sun was on them and the river had receded without Any traders coming up stream. That saddened her more than anything. The lack of traders meant no news, no new and exciting things.. nothing just another hot boring gathering season then a hotter dry season.

She looked whist-fully at the dry cracked river not far from her sitting spot, then back at the three huts making up her clan.

"It would be OK if there was someone to play with" she mused sulkily "As it is the elders are all so busy. To busy even to tell me to go do a chore."

She flopped back with a sigh. Were there other kittens out there somewhere? Wouldn't it be nice to meet one! Heck it would be nice to meet someone! But her mother was to protective of her.. being one of the only kittens in a very small clan made life for an adventuresome kitten very hard.

Her green eyes watched the tall grasses bend above her.. a flock of geese flew past toward a larger source of water. Her little wings fluttered once before she realized what she was doing. Horrified she glanced about but there was no one watching, she quickly folded and pressed the little leathery wings flat smoothing the fine grey fur on them to look more like her back fur, then she fluffed her hair over them.

" I wish I could just fly away" she whispered whist-fully to herself "But if anyone sees me with the wings mother says they will call me a 'Diabo', a Devil, Or a Demon." she sniffed and patted a shoulder " There not big enough for me to really fly anyhow.. still I wish mother hadn't tried to cut them off when I was younger. Thay might be bigger now if she hadn't "
She remembered back to those early memories. Her mothers shame, the shameness's hiss as her mother tried to maim her wings. The pain.
Only those two and Kassa knew of her secret. Kassa had learned to hide them with her mothers strict teaching.
It was no wonder she dreamed of far off places.

She dreamed of Traders comming...

"And if you could fly, where would you go?" A smooth voice purred, "Really, it's too nice of a day for kittens to be sitting around doing nothing."

A dark cougar shuffled her way through the tall grass beside the riverbed, twirling a black feather with her claws. The flask at her hip sloshed gently as she walked and she wore a kind smile although her words were reprimanding.

"Well, no worry, the traders will be coming any day now. You'll have lots of other kittens to play with then."

She both looked forward to and dreaded the traders' arrival, it was her only chance to hear news of the other cougar clans. In a time passed, she had been a warrior, and although her life in the Longtail clan was comfortable, she needed to stay alert for any signs of war brewing. If she heard the slightest whisper of combat, she would go and try to quell the fighting before it had a chance to spread. The dark cougar looked wistfully off into the wind, hoping that trouble wouldn't come.

((This happens at the same time Eris's ceremony ends))

A wind rushed across the savannah. Herd animals were sent into nervous stampedes and all the other predetors hide in their dens with vicious tempers. Something on the wind frightened even the bravest animals on this plain.

The Tinta Merle ran a finger over her quill pen, preening it neverously. That wind was an ill omen and it made her fur bristle. A single drop of ink splattered from the tip and it hissed and spluttered like oil when it hit the paper. Something was coming. Something big, and she wasn't sure if even she would be able to fight it. She shook a few more drops onto the paper and they too, bubbled before spreading into the image of a broken chain.

Tahki shivered, glancing up at the horizon as her fur stood on end. Entire flocks of birds were taking to the air and her ears twitched at the sounds of panic and fear in their cries. Something was wrong.

Something was seriously wrong.

Frowning, she rose to her full height, looking out over the flat lands, wondering what could have caused the animals such distress. She could feel it as well; a sort of uneasy tension, like something dangerous was coming, but one knew not what. Perhaps the elders of the tribe would know more about this disturbance. Turning on her heel, Tahki bounded lightly over the ground, heading for the tribe's small gathering of huts. Someone had to be there at this time of day. Hopefully, someone that could shed some light on this mystery.

"That is an ill wind it is."

The voice came from a blind elder who was always seen sitting outside her home. She never really moved anywhere else unless it was important. But many reguarded her words as she was a formerly powerful shamen. Though her magic had faded with age and she was blind, she could still "see" things that others could not.

"A young one approaches me, but not a kitten. Tahki, it is you. You make the grass nervous with your running. Do you sense the ill wind?"

Tahki skidded to a halt at the sound of her name, dust clouds billowing around her as her footpaws scratched at the dry earth. Looking over at the ancient one, she nodded her head politely. Even if the old shamaness could no longer see, the teen knew that she could still sense things that her eyes could not and it always paid to be polite.

"Yes, wise one. There is an odd disturbance crossing the plains, panicking the prey and predators alike. I've never felt anything like this before in my life. Do you know what is happening? It feels like something is coming, though I know not what." She frowned, serious and calm despite her young age.

"The wind is not natural but carries a natural scent. And one that most animals do not wish to smell but without would never survive. It smells of chaos. Strange. Chaos is such a natural part of life. We would not know peace without it, just as we would not know light if were never saw darkness. But this wind...it signals something. A release, or perhaps, a break of bonds. I am not sure. But this wind......it comes from the mountains."

The old one "looked" towards the mountains, listening to the cries of all the animals and the whistle on the wind. Yes, this was Chaos's work.

Tahki listened to the elder's mysterious words, trying her best to follow along and understand. It smelled...of chaos? Chaos had a smell? As she paused to think about it, she sniffed the wind experimentally again. Yes, there was a strange scent in the air, similar to the scent of panic or fear from prey animals during the hunt. Similar...but different.

"From the mountains? There's...another tribe up there, isn't there?" She seemed taken by a sudden childlike curiosity. She knew little outside of her own tribe, though she spent much time studying anything and everything in her own sphere of experience.

"Oh yes, a very dangerous tribe. They are known as the Quicktalon, for they kill quicky with sharp claws. They are the most warloving tribe of us all. It comes from their clan it seems. How appropriate. But listen you must to this warning, stay away from the mountains. Yes, you could see over the whole of our land from its peaks. But so unsure is your heart there, that you would fall into its dark depts. And there lies the heart of chaos, where you will be forever trapped."

She seemed to be in a trance as she said all this.

Tahki could practically feel the seriousness of the situation, its presence almost tangible. It wasn't often that the ancient one seemed in touch with her old shamaness powers anymore, but she seemed to go into a trance as she spoke and Tahki knew she was witnessing a rare event. Nodding slowly, her curiosity was peaked, but she would obey the elder's command.

"Of course, wise one. I will stay away from the mountain." She bowed slightly in respect, though her eyes drifted, glancing towards the horizon where the mountains loomed in the distance. What sort of Cougars lived in a place like that? Were they all as wild and fierce as they were rumored to be?

"It would be good for us all to do just that." A voice put in. "The cougars who live there would not hesitate to attack outsiders."

The Tintamerle, to most of the tribe "Auntie", stepped out from between two huts holding a leaf of paper. She smiled kindly at the teen, before addressing the blind shamaness.

"Elder, I have felt the wind of discord blow over these plains. And now, what would you make of this?"

She carefully took hold of the old cougar's hand and pressed it over the ink splatters on the paper, so she could feel the wet shape of the broken chain.
