The little seaside town was strangely silent this night. Even the gulls did not cry out as they so often did. Only the steady pounding of surf against sand sounded through still silence, though that, too, seemed muffled, distant.
A shrill scream pierced the quiet like a sharpened dagger, then ceased abruptly. The rhythmic beating of a horse's slow gallop followed, but as hooves met cobbled stone, they reverberated oddly... echoing... echoing...
An earth dragon awoke almost immediately and rose to his feet. He stepped carefully out of the narrow alley he had been lying in and into the street. He looked left, then right, then left again, but nothing stirred. The dim lamps lining the road swayed softly on their metal hinges, never making a sound, the flames within burning low as the night lulled on. The eerie gallop continued as if from all directions, though perhaps softer now, as if growing distant. The dragon sighed, and growled low and deep in his throat. Probably yet another bar brawl turned violent... hooligans...
He turned just in time to see the glint of a sword's blade as it caught the low fire-light. Then darkness.
---
"So... they''ve returned?"
The old man nodded, slowly running a hand over the head of the water dragon curled about his armchair.
"I''m afraid so..."
A murmur arose from the crowd assembled, a group consisting of nearly everyone in the town. The man held up his hand for silence, which quickly descended.
"Yes. The series of seemingly random murders... nay, the Nightwalkers do not kill. No one knows exactly what they do with their victims, but the signs are all alike. Strange disappearances, all of whom were said to be out after midnight, and never seen again. The well water... you''ve noticed, surely?"
A man nodded gravely. "It''s red," he said quietly, staring at the floor. "Like... like blood. The seafoam, too... the beach is... red..."
"Yes. And the nightmares."
"I haven't been able to sleep for weeks!" exclaimed a woman, rocking a baby that wailed steadily. "And neither has Will..." She cooed to her child, unable to hush his cries.
"The shadow steeds of the Nightwalkers always bring sleeplessness with them... it seems that they have indeed returned. And so must Sayrimis," concluded the old man.
Murmurings and exclamations followed.
"I thought that blade was lost years ago!"
"No, last I heard of the tales it''s in the Sharacian Desert!"
"Yeah, in that temple!"
"Pssh, all of you know nothing! It went West with its weilder!"
Such mutterings and gossipings filled the room, the volume steadily growing louder until the water dragon, silent till this moment, raised his head and hissed in aggravation. The people hushed, as did the dragon companions of the lucky few.
"We must find the lost sword! Find one strong enough to weild it! Only then can we vanquish the Nightwalkers, like the Great One did so long ago..."

:"We've got a problem on our hands, that's for sure...":
:"Ah, these 'Nightwalkers' don't seem so tough! What's everybody so darned terrified about?":
:"Raethin, it's not so simple. I mean, it was big in this town's history hundreds of years ago. If you're born here, you know the story.":
:"Well, care to enlighten me?": snapped the flame dragon in irritation.
The young man sighed mentally, and patiently explained to his bonded.
"The Nightwalkers roamed these streets for an hour every midnight. They would prowl about, breaking into houses and... taking... those within. They'd just disappear, all of them, each time only a black rose would remain.
No one really knows what they look like, because no one's seen one and lived. But they ride. The hooves tell us that much. The hoofprints scorched into the ground. The echoings...": he shivered.
:"But then someone came forward... We call him the Great One. No one remembers his name, only that of his sword: Sayrimis. With that he was said to challenge the Nightwalkers, and struck them down one by one.":
:"Mmmm, one by one? How many of them critters are there?":
:"Rae, be serious! This is reality. This is death!":
:"Fine, fine, go on, I'll shut up.":
:"Twelve: One for each hour of the evening. Or at least, that's what the tales say. No one knows. But after the Nightwalkers lay slain, they just... disappeared. The town assumed the menace gone for good, and celebrated the great hero. But the mysterious man just left as soon as he had come and saved all, said to have taken the sword with him. And so we've lived in peace... till now.":

All right! Let's see how this goes...
Basically, this is one big quest RP. 3nodding Y'all start out in this big meeting house, where, as you have *hopefully* read, the Nightwalkers have returned! =O Volunteer to quest for the lost sword, or just follow along! (Coren and Raethin are goin' even if no one else enlists. XD)
So! This is a chance to work them writing skills (both yours and mine xp ) with an organized, semi-planned plot. ^_^ Build bonds between your wyrms and their chosen, quench their thirst for adventure, and most importantly...
Have fun!

Hearing a bit of commotion, loud enough to wake him from his hiding place outside of the town, the young wyrm flicks his tail a few times and decides to investigate. As he enters the town, he hides as best he can...he is young yet, and knows very little of the society therin, or how they deal with his type. As he moves closer to the central meeting house, where most of the commotion is based. He sees at a distance through the window many people, and an earth dragon, as well as a few others. Good he thinks to himself. If there is another in there, that means these people are used to them, at least somewhat.
He moves closer, but not yet to the door. A window will do, where he can hear what is being said. He finds one, with a slight crack. It allows the scent of so many people gathered together to waft out. Fear is the main scent carried on the breeze tonight. The fear of so many people is almost overwhelming. He stands and looks inside, tail swishing back and forth like an agitated cat.
Behind him, quietly, out of the darkness comes a woman. She is short, has long red hair almost the color of his skin, and eyes the green of the scum in a freshwater stangant pond. "Hello," she says softly, nearly causing the dragon to jump out of his skin.
He looks to her. He can understand the spoken language of the humans, but isn't so sure about his ability to vocalize yet. Again, very cat like, he cocks his head to one side. His mouth opens, and a sound comes out, which is nothing like hello. Hrm. That didn't work well he thinks. Perhaps this. Good evening. he thinks, trying to focus his thoughts to her.
She looks slightly startled at hearing the rhaspy voice in her head. Then she smiles. "I am Ptera. Quite some goings on in the town tonight, yes?"
Karath looks at her. Ptera he thinks. Such an odd name.
Ptera helped the young fire wyrm to the window ledge, where he could see as easily as smell the human throng inside. He now had a much better view than he'd had previously coming up the street. Who are you, Ptera. Why do you help me? How are you not afraid of me? I am young, and know little. Will you teach me?
She looks to the young one. Ahh, she thinks how young he truly is. "I am who and what I am. I can be no more. I help you because you need help. I do not fear you, because I can see your true self, and you are not one to be feared. Yes, your are young, and you do know very little. But I will do what I can to change that. Shall we go inside and see what more we can learn?"
The idea of moving inside the building put the young one ill at ease, yet this woman seemed confident, so he thought his assent to her. Together, him riding on her shoulder, they moved to the front of the building. Quitely, they slipped throught the door, and off to the left. The main throng of people was gathered towards the center of the room, and in the back here there was room to try to refrain from being noticed too terribly.
Woman and wyrm, they sat and watched.

*walking along the blood stained beach,Sage let her self be guided along by her nose. Human blood disguised her like no other but that was not why she was here. She had come along a villiage far back from this one where people spoke of some of her halfling missguided cousin. Taking a closer relation ship to her darker side had brought her this way. She now felt it was her duty as her clans leader to take on any one or any thing that would tarnish her kinds name.
Glancing down as she walked she smiled to the three young wyrm following at her side, they both openly showed their disguist of the blood soaked land. Closing her eyes as she cont to walk Sage found her self some what drawl to the scent of the body though she knew it could kill her.The smell still had some kind of appeal to her nature. Shaking the thoughts from her head she sighed know was no time to have blood on her mind she had come to help sol;ve the problem not make it worst.
Speaking softly to the wyrms she stopped for a moment pulling out a long black hooded robe from being wrappped arouid her lonb bow and blade.Handing the blade to the first wyrm and the bow and arrow to the second she tossed the robe on pulling the hood up and over her eyes. She the resecured the bow to her back and tied the blade to her side with a piece of black leather.
Turning from the ocean up towards the town she lifted the smallest of the three wyrms she set the small earth wyrm on her shoulder. Looking down at the other to she slowly signaled for the next wyrm to take off into the air. Though the fire wyrm was not much older than the others Sage depended the most on it seeing as it was the only one of the group that could fly. "Scout find the main lodge of this place " she commanded with a short nod watching the wyrm blaze a path off into the night sky.
Moving slowly Sage began to follow the fire wyrm. Entering the town slowly she let her eyes adjust to the lights coming from different places.Soon the fire wyrm returned leading her to the main building the place where she could learn how to help. Standing out side the building she lifted her hand letting the wyrm land on it before placing it on her other shoulder.""Thank you Embyr"
The wyrm let out a small giggle" no problemmo M' lady"
Shaking her head slightly Sage pressed the door open slowly glancing around before she stepped in.Bowing her head slightly she waited to present herself .Smothing her robe out she coughed a bit .
"I am lady Sage of the forest vampire clan I have come to help in any way need along with my three wyrm"*

Matthew held the small wind wyrm close to him, arm braced against the wind. The dragon gave a small weary cry, her head sheltering under the boy's traveling cloak. "We're almost there, girl. Almost there..." The surf battered his face, blowing salt into his eyes. He focused his eyes up ahead, on the lonely building ahead. The boy stumbled as the harsh wind increased its howling. "It's enough to wake the dead," he murmured in awe.
Pushing onward, he made it to the door. Matthew struggled to open the unwilling door. Once he had created a small crack he pushed his foot inside. He shifted his weight and tumbled inside. Hurriedly, he shut the door behind him. The little wyrm rolled out of his arms and shook herself wildly, almost like a dog. He looked tiredly down at her. "We made it Helyn. We made it..." He fell forward against the wall. Slowly he sank down limply to the ground. Helyn nudged his foot, chortling softly. The boy was young. Too young to be traveling alone with only a small hatchling..

Ma'ar raised his head from where he had been resting, curled up around a table. He had been listening to the conversation, and had decided to follow the adventurers when they left. After the storm of course. There were so many people gathering at the little inn tonight. Perhaps it was destiny.

P'tera scanned the common room, as it looked like the meeting would soon come to a close. What had been decided, as far as she could tell, was that most of the villagers would leave, and those who remained behind would be those who wanted to try their strenght and wit against the dangers. She looked to the smally wyrm beside her.
"So, do you feel up to a bit of an adventer?" she asked it.
The little one looked startled for an instant, almost as though it'd been sleeping. Karath seemed almost to smile as he looked up. Certainly. If you will acompany me.
"Then I would suggest we seek out the others who seem to be wanting to go along. It looks as though there are several other wyrms who may be going. It would likely be good for you to make their acquantiance.

Krysti and Ronan waited in the common room. Ronan flicked his long tail back and forth, upwards and downwards. Krysti tapped her fingers on the table they were sitting at. She sighed. How long do we have to wait here? she asked her friend mentally.
As long as it takes. Man, I hate waiting. Why can't this just start already? her companion replied, twitching his tail. It's so boring.
It can't be helped, Krysti replied. We have no choice in the matter. We must wait.
I hate waiting. Why do we always have to wait? We don't even know half these creatures! Ronan argued. His eyes swept the room, narrowing as he surveyed the other wyrms. Krysti reached over and put a hand on one of his horns, worry evident on her face.

The meeting had ended. Aran couldn't believe that he was going to go. Vivid green-blue eyes were glimmering excitedly, sharing thoughts with his Wyrm which was standing calmly behind him, just as happy that he was going to get to see some action. Death did not register with his mind, it was the excitement of adventure. Aran looked back at Haku, the hybrid nodding. Well?
Well what? Haku asked, his silver scales gleaming in the light of fire. Excitement filled his eyes, the mane down his spine seeming to dance as the water/wind Wyrm moved beside his bonded. However, Haku was scanning the faces of the others, those who would be going with them. Amusedly, he spotted someone that Aran would sooner go without. Amai is coming, along with Atalanta.
Aran looked around quickly, skimming details about everyone else to find his older sister. Finally his eyes landed on her. Grolwing, he hit his fists on his legs. Why does she have to come and ruin my good time?! He demanded, pouting at her and her precious little water Wyrm.
He's glaring at us. Haku finally told him we were here. The blue Wyrm said, tail twitching. Ata nudged Amai, eager to meet some of the others. Amai stood, looking at Aran leering. She smiled at him, looking at some of the other inhabitants of the room.
Are these all who are going looking for the sword? Amai asked, recieiving a nod from Ata. Surely there would be others... The number was thus far small. Death, that and more they may be risking by doing this. Amai couldn't bear the thought of the Nightwalkers living after what they did to people... In her fingers dangled a black rose, one she had found earlier this morning. That rose stood for the end of a person's life, or so she assumed. What else were they to guess? Wyrms and humanoids alike were dying!
Nice use of humanoid. Ata said, agreeing that that was the reason for this. Adventure was nothing compared to a good cause. The water Wyrm looked at some of the others there, finally looking at an impatient Earth Wyrm. She attempted to prod getnly at his mind, Hello.
Amai nodded, "Well not all of us are human, need I remind you?" Ata shook her head, stretching out in impatience. It was time to get going soon.

Ice wandered into the down her bright blue wings glistened in the torch light as did her tail, she had silver spikes on her long draconicl tail. She had two horns sticking out of her head behind her Elven like ears. She carried a sword and claws weapon on her belt. She also had some conseald weapons, a dagger on her leg and a couple more. She carried a side bag that held a wyrm egg, it was a fire wyrm like the large Female that walked beside her. The egg had spoken to her once and claimed it was a female named Larricka . Ice didn't question the egg and it hadn't spoken since. Though Mithrana had grown and that was good indeed. as they entered the town Ice hushed Mithrana "Quit whipping your tail, you might hurt some one." she told the large dragon.
Mithrana walked tall beside her Chosen bond Ice. Mithrana whipped her long tail around breaking some trees while she was at it. "I am bored" she told Ice looking down to the tall Demon as they entered the down mithrana did indeed quit whipping her tail around. Some of the towns folk ran at the sight of the firce Fire wyrm.
Above them both flew the adolecent hybrid wyrm Zar'roc. He was both Fire and wind, a special mix indeed. "I dont see why we should even bother going." he mumbled bored.
"We go cause I can hear talk of an adventure, there is such a ruckus tonight" Ice replied to the hybrid grinning as she could hear very well and even though she was slightly late she caught all the bits about the NightWalkers and the mission. Ice turned back to Mithrana "You might get that fight you where wanting." she winked to the Fire Wyrm.
Mithrana nodded and grinned showing all her large sharp teeth. She followed Ice quietly as did Zar though he didn't understand why they where going anyway.
Ice opened the door to the inn and walked over to the chair and sitting down she looked into her pack to make sure the egg was still here. "Good" she muttered still seeing it there. Ice motioned to Mithana to come over
Mithrana came through the door right behind Ice who sat at a table. She got strange looks as she was diffrent from the other Fire wyrms and she didn't know why. Mithrana hoped to see other's like her wingless fire wyrms. Mithrana also saw a number of other hybrids. "Intresting." she muttered to herself her eyes fell upong one imparticular a dark/flame hybrid. She hadn't seen one of thoes in such a long time. Mithrana stood beside Ice and looked toward her.
Zar slithered in right beside Mithrana and currled up underneath their table listening. "What are we doing? Zar asked quietly.
Ice listened quietly "Hear that Mithrana, Zar?"Ice whispered to the large female Fire dragon, who was standing beside her. "The nightwalkers have returned" Ice shifted her weight in the seat she was siting in and looked to zar "We go.." she grinned
"Yes." she replied with an aproving grin she turned her large scalely head toward Ice. "I will Follow when you go." she said her tail swaying gently. Her bright green eyes glinted dangerously in the anticipation of a decent fight.
"Why do you Enjoy fighting when it gets you no where?" Zar questioned Mithrana with an irritated glare, he looked back to Ice calmly "I will come also" he grinned "I might just run into some of my family clan, by chance" he looked around intently hoping to spot them.
"Hey" Ice chuckled "Don't be to hastey, you know what happens when you rush into a fight." Ice winked "Even though you usually win, but yes I am in." he said a bit loudler so the other's could hear her arival and that she would participate.

"So... so..." the old man murmured, stroking the water wyrm who grew clearly more and more agitated. "It's settled, then. Some will go. To the desert. Now... those who dare to brave the sands... raise your hands."
A pause. A moment of hesitation. Then a young man calmly, steadily put his long arm into the air. His face was strangely taut, though resolutely devoid of expression. "I'll go, Lane. I'll go."
The old man smiled weakly, wearily. "A good man, you are, Coren. Anyone else...?"
After seeing another take the plunge, several other men and women slowly raised their hands, though the majority of the townsfolk lay still. Raethin, the flame dragon at Coren's side, snorted in distaste. :"What cowards.":
:"Shhh, shh, Rae.":
The old man, Lane, head of the village Galfeir, nodded grimly, as if agreeing with the opinion of the dragon he could not hear.
"You are brave souls."

(( ah, okies, thanks >.< ))
A small golden light dragon stayed near the door as she listened to the humans talk about "Nightwalkers." She had never heard of them before, and was curouis, about what happened to the people who dissapeared, but she knew that she did not want to know. Her sapphire blue eyes looked around the room nervously as she listened to the murmors and speakings, seeing the older and larger dragons, and she wondered if she could go help find the sword. What was it called again...? Ah yes, the Sayrimis... I wonder why they wouldn't remember the Great One's name...? The youngling thought.
