Alright, everybody knows about NIN, one of the darkest bands and pioneers in the industrial metal sound. They've been around since 1989, starting out with a boy named Trent Micheal Reznor, a few instruments, a recorder, and a dark dream.
He's went from Piano trained Small tow boy to recording artist in Cleveland, and he, along with others he picked up along the way, have been honing their dark sound and spiraling lyrics, producing such classics like Hurt (beautifully covered by the late Johnny Cash later on) and Closer (the latter video so provocative it was heavily censored before being let on air) And they've kept the true music spirit alive, playing great live sets and creating despite lack of audience response in the marketplace.
Although the band has had internal issues as of late (former drummer Chris Vrenna leaving the band for reasons currently unknown) the band still goes on to create songs and try their hand at other mediums, like producing movie scores (What you hear on the critcally acclaimed Natural Born Killers is their handiwork) and games (Trent Reznor was actually going to do the soundtrack for Doom 3, but legal issues prevented him from having the time to do so, and Ex-drummer Chris Vrenna took over. If you have Doom 3 and wish to play it with his sounds, they can be downloaded here)
They love and appreciate all their fans, as any decent band should, and they even give the band's fan opportunities to play with and remix the tracks themselves. (for those that have music programs and/or Macs and wanna play around with them, click here)
With Trent now taking up producing roles as well as music making spots, I think its safe to say music is in this mans blood, however dark it may be.
Their career at a glance:
Pretty Hate Machine (1989)
Broken (1992)
The Downward Spiral (1994)
The Fragile (1999)
With Teeth (2005)
