I was given a complement by another Buddhist practicioner and to be honest I do not know how to act. Should I be happy (it was a good one)? Should I disregard it? I mean what s/he said to me was inspirational but I sort of caught myself being proud of his comment and realized "uh oh...I'm not feeling right here" It feels weird, it's like warning bells ringing.
Did this happen to any of you? How do you deal with it? How do you deal with it and prepare if it happens again?

I don't think that being pleased that someone thinks well of you is a bad thing, so long as you don't start puffing yourself up or dwelling on it. I think the best thing to do is accept the compliment gracefully, allow yourself to feel pleased, relax, and move on.

As long as you don't value others comments higher than your own and don't let them get to your head you'll be a-ok!!

I think that you have to find the balance between being humble and having pride in what you do. I think that the best thing to do would to say thank you and jsut a slight bow. From what i have heard you should be happy in budhish so be happy that someone thaught good fo you. That felling you described is pride and you should have pride in what you do. Its about not taking it over the top and shouting it over the roofs

"there is no spoon"
Don't allow yourself to get attached to compliments or to criticisms, but take both in stride...
The fact that you ask the question means you are at least aware of a possible 'ego hazzard'. Few of us are fully Enlightened, try though as we may... Or is that we are all Enlightened... Or that there is no difference... No duality... Or.... ::walks away mumbling::

Spit on the floor in front of them, and then leave with a Gassho.
That'll trip them up.

I know that the holy Buddhas of the past, putting away all lust, ill-will, sloth, pride, and doubt, knowing all those mental faults which make men weak, training their minds in the four kinds of mental activity, thoroughly exercising themselves in the sevenfold higher wisdom, received the full fruition of Enlightenment. And I know that the holy Buddhas of the times to come will do the same.
