For the past half decade the western views of islam have many steroetypes you know I know and its inevitable, but the thing I don't understand is "islam is a violent cult"... by now you would be thinking I am someguy trying to stop sterotypes correct? let me go on... prior to 9/11 these rumours or sterotypes started mainly in America and many of its supporters have seen its selves as targets, causing this had caused hatred towards the muslims nation, ok flashback: 9/11 happened the U.S secretary of defense was in chaos now they are targeting the middle east, although I agree with the US' actions to destory places like these but doing so will help the muslims nation in return, I am not saying all muslims are responsible but you know if you see those big imams on the televison saying we will destory all kaffirs and whatnot just to let you know its in our quran saying:
"for every life theres a life" and its the teachings of our prohet too befriend or be kind to a fellow human regardless of his or her religoun, so why are all these guys preaching hatred? simple they're hypocrites, that never came to my mind? ok another flash back:7/7 happened one year ago and that basically ******** up britain with a death toll of 77 people harming 100 of thousands mentally for life, now I ask you:do you think those youths who performed it were responsible for they're actions? no they were not the US FBI and the head of britain's state of defense have leeds to believe the following youths:sherzad tanweer, hasseeb husain, jermail lindsay, and mohamed siddiqe khan were brain washed through internet and through preaching of radicals in islam that its jihad, heres another verse from teh quran statsing jihad is:
"and go fight in the name your lord to those who persecuted you and your religoun" last I recalled killing innocents was never jihad,so what do you think?

Like with Christianity, I do not look down on Islam. I look down on the extremists.

there are actually a very small number of extremeists in every religion, but its that growing number of extremeists that scare the hell outta me.

If you actually follow the religion, it's a violent cult.

Problem is, a lot of people aren't fundamentalist. They're moderate. They're ignorant of teachings and ignore them. Since they're hardly religious, they make the religion seem okay beause they're okay. But they enable people who are more serious about it to kill people, so screw them.

Like with most modern religions, Islam is only bad if you take it to extremes. Monotheistic religions especially tend to be "violent cults" at the core. Holy War comes to mind... stare

Small number? Are you kidding me? The largest number of extremists to date that I know of migrate to the largest church in the United States EVERY SINGLE DAY. There is a HUGE number of Fundamentalist Christians in this country, it's petrifying, and oh yeah our "President" is one of them. That is scary.

I'll find some videos off youtube for you..scary stuff.

And super-fundamentalist Christianity as it is written in the OT is any better with its stonings and its views of women?

They're both quite similar, especially when it comes to the OT. Christianity only differs hugely with the New Testament. So does that make Jews and Muslims roughly equally bad?

I went to school with a muslim guy and he and his mother did many presentations on Islam to the class both before and after 9/11. And we went to a Catholic school (Canadian public Catholic school, so anyone can attend). Islam and Christianity are both just as bad in their fundamentalist forms.

The biggest problem is that there is a set of conditions in the Middle East allowing a growth of extremist ideals, only part of which is the war in Iraq. It's very much politcally similar the Balkans before WWI (if I even remotely remember my history) and the instability over there is difficult for a North American to understand since we consist of only 3 countries sharing a maximum of 2 borders with each other.

unfortunately it's the extremeists that make the rest of them look bad!

i disagree. almost every religion in the world has some form of "do to others as you would have them do to you" i submit that extremist take ONE part of their religion and exagerate it beyond reason. one of the passages in the bible says "love those who hate you, do good to those who persecute you" (i don't have the knowledge of islam to quote, but a muslim i know assures me that there is a simular sentiment.) that does not sound violent to me!
