HOW TO CREATE A ROLEPLAY

The first thing you need to think about is the story. You can make an original RP or make one from something that exists for example an anime show, video game, movie etc. Making an RP from something that exists (also known as fan fiction) can make things go faster since people might already know about the story and they need little explanations about it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't make an original RP, sometimes it's even better if you have a lot of creativity to go on and create your own world but you have to give some time to explain the cultures, climax, era and what not so that people interested know what they are getting into.

Let's divide things into sections so that it'll be easier to come back and read it. This is by no means official, it is just my input.

STORY:

Fanfic- Use any available material you can find from the source of the idea and make it accessible to the people joining your RP. The best way to do so is using the first page of the RP Thread.
Pick a moment in particular when to start your story, or make it clear is an alternate world story. Alternate world is another way of saying that it won't be 100% faithful to the source. After you have your story set write some kind of prologue or backstory for newcomers.

Original- Describe in full detail your idea. The problem with original stories is the source material. You can opt to have little sources to start your RP which means people could have more freedom when creating their characters. But you must put some limits and some rules as to what's too much. Regardless of your choice a prologue is needed even if it starts with just your character.

GETTING MEMBERS:

Not an easy task, especially since we can't advertise much. The Gaia Guild Network rules allow you to advertise your roleplay in the chatterbox, within a shop that you own (or a friend's) and in your signature. Other than that it will be considered spam and you might get in trouble for that.

Solutions:

Get creative, search for an artist that is available and comission him/her to create a banner or signature for you. Remember maximum size should be 500 x 500 and 100k. There are other creative ways but that's the only one I could think of at the moment blaugh

Guild specific:

Create a recruitment thread. Of course that is after you've been given the OK by the Captain. In this thread you should give some eye candy to catch the attention of people. If you plan on having a Fantasy RP a map of the world and possibly drawings of the races/classes is more than enough to get you what you need. Text is fun, adding visuals to that text adds interaction. You can have a store in your RP or set it in a different thread. Your choices must be approved first but regardless they are there.

TITLE OF YOUR RP

The title is very important if you want to catch the attention of people.
Name your RP right. Most people use a name and a title or a title and subtitle. For example:

Stargate Atlantis
The Lost Team

By doing that you make somewhat clear that it is a side story and people will get an idea of what to expect. If you name your RP something like:

Vampire RP

don't expect many users joining (or you might be lucky and actually have a lot)
I've seen plenty of Vampires Role Plays in Barton Town and a title like that never gets my attention.
Now if you name it something like:

Lords of the Nights

that would be more interesting. If you have something like Underworld going on which has Vampires vs Werewolves you can add a subtitle.

Lords of the Nights
War for Dominion

If you want to make it clear that it is a Vampire RP you can write (Vampires RP) next to the title so that people interested in that kind of thing will instinctively look. Basically your title should sound Epic. There are many examples in movies. Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, Lord of the Rings Return of the King etc

RULES

Everything in this world needs rules and I don't have to explain why. When you create a set of rules for the RP make sure you are not making it difficult to roleplay. Roleplaying is just like any turn based game, there are limits to what you can do. If your RP needs it you could have stats for each player. You can even have a leveling up system but make sure people aren't going around killing whatever they want just to gain levels.

One Rule that applies to every RP is Godmodding. What is godmodding?
Godmodding is when you write and control both your character and someone else's. Also godmodding refers to when you know about everyone else's actions and thoughts regardless of location. For example, let's say we have people on a mountain top and others in a town. If someone in town learns about a mystic rune that is hidden inside a cave in the same mountain the other people are and then suddenly one of those mountain players get the urge to explore, find the cave and the Rune before the ones who got the info can make it there that's godmodding. Sometimes godmodding is allowed. For example an action that has an obvious reaction. A punch thrown doesn't mean it will connect but if you have a character asking another for a book you can have the other character "godmod" by saying ok here and describing how the other player got the book and even say something like I'll give it back as soon as I'm done.

To help you enforce the rules you should get some users participating in the RP to help you mod it.

How to mod your RP. Well if you find someone breaking your RP rules you can PM that person and have them fix their post. If you are an RP mod you should contact the RP creator first and have him/her deal with that (unless the RP creator himself has given you the authority to do so yourself) If the person keeps causing trouble you can choose to ban him from your RP. If that's not enough you should contact a Guild Mod or the Captain.
