Some people say he got eye surgery...0_o I doubt it, but people are paranoid that his eyes are wider since last year.
(No, our silly meevers wouldnt do that...would he??? 0_o)

Ohh I heard that rumor as well.. hmm a friend told me that most of japanese artists did that so the eyes look wider and they can stand out more.. or something like that, he said miyavi had it.. still can't belive it.. I don't see the difference hmm v.v but I have seen that weird page where they teach you how to do that: (lol well that is not surgery.. but I think it is something like that?)

XD Yah, that's the eye glue there, I think.

But it's not so that they stand out, it's so that they look more "Westernized" because in mainstream pop culture and fashion, it's "in" to look Western, so a lot of artists will often get drastic plastic surgery in order to make their eyes wider and also change other aspects about their face to make it look more Western.

I don't doubt that there's a chance that Miyavi had it done, but I question the chosen time difference in the rumor posted. A year ago is too short and his eyes seem to be about the same if you even compare the close up shots from this year's Zy (July or August, I forget) to last year's August Shoxx issue. Even the DLQ pic that's up in the gallery features him wearing glasses with still some pretty huge eyes, so if he had it done at all, I would think it was even before he joined DLQ.

The issue here is also that Miyavi's *NOT* fully Japanese and some Asians naturally have wide eyes. HELL, *I DO*. My entire family on my Dad's side does with no surgery necessary. So mixed ancestry could have a play in it as well. Although not necessarily because even my best friend in middle school had wide eyes and she was also of Japanese ancestry.

Note my roommates too. Michelle is also Chinese and Eileen is Filipino with some Chinese blood in her. All Asian, and no eye surgery. The girl in that video though just made her eyes look more like maybe Michelle's or Eileen's. And most of the time when my eyes are "small" in those pics I'm smiling and squinting. I close my eyes part way when I smile. The pics in Japantown where I'm standing in at the courtesan cutout shows how big my eyes really are. Still though, it seems like Western ideas give a false perception of what "Asian eyes" look like. Some people are naturally born with the eyes that are created in the video. Not everyone is, but some people are.

XD Yah, it could be natural, but it all depends on whether or not that picture of him supposedly when he was younger is in fact him.

It's a side view because some reason frontal views of my face looks really not flattering with this camera for some reason. When I'm out about the town with friends it's usually fine, but it's something with the lighting of the flash and the angle I take it at when I'm trying to do a self portrait with it that makes it look god awful. I've had better pictures taken with a black & white camera with no flash. It's kind of sad.

Anyway, if you notice there that my eyes are pretty wide for an Asian person. You should also notice that I have *FREAK EYES* because they're light brown instead of the normal dark brown almost black that most Asians have. My sister and I both have this weird gene along with one of my friends in my Japanese club who also has wide eyes. She's half Japanese and half Chinese. I also noticed from Miyavi in some photos that he also has this weird trait although I don't think they're as light as mine are. They look black from a frontal view, but when you get good shots of the iris, it's blatantly obvious that I have a weird gene.

That's interesting. A lot of people mistake me for Filipino too because not a lot of Chinese people are tanned too. We exist though. We just live in the south. =P My Dad's side of the family is more prone to tanning it seems also. That and I used to play outside a lot as a kid so I got dark real fast from all the sunburns I had.

Not to be too offtopic though, but I think my life story *alone* goes against a lot of expectations of what Asian people or even Chinese people should look like. People usually think of small eyes and fair skin it seems, but there's the opposite that exist too because China is a pretty diverse country and there was all kinds of trade between China, Japan, and Korea going on for centuries. Those considered to be "Japanese" now today are even actually descended from people who came from the continent through the Korean peninsula. The "original inhabitants" technically inhabit modern day Hokkaido and are different from those who are said to be "native Japanese". So it kind of just goes to show already that you can't take this rumor too seriously.

EDIT: More pics just to drive the point home that you can't necessarily tell right off the bat unless you have hard pics of before and after. I figure variation with a real life example works well.

It actually made me kind of happy to find that he did though because then I didn't feel quite as weird.

EDIT: Also, that curtain belongs to the girl I'm subleasing the room I'm staying in right now. XD I like them too though.
