Here's the place to discuss Miyavi in general from Indies to Major, where you think he's going, trends, sound, etc. Also, all discussions on individual singles and their PVs are to be discussed in here. Please do not make individual threads about each single release.

I really think his voice has improved ALOT since he started solo. In my opinion, I like his solo career better than when he was in DLQ. I've listened to them and they just aren't my cup of tea.

They aren't really mine either. I don't really like Sakito's voice. =/ I still have the entire DLQ discography on my computer just to try to force myself to listen to it, but I honestly don't really like them all that much although I *love* Miyavi's solo career.

His voice has definitely improved over the course of his career though. The recordings are all great and all, but for the life of me I cannot stand watching Gekokujou and live performances he did earlier in his solo career because of his singing. =/

I have to say I like Miyavi's solo work a lot better that when he was in DLQ. I don't think that band really was the type of music I listen to, confused never did really get into it.

When he came out with his solo work, I really liked it a lot. Though some of his old stuff I tend to not like as much as I do with his newer work. I really like in his work that he doesn't tend to stick to one main thing. He tries all different types of music even if most of his fans won't like it, he still goes for it at least once.

Yes, that diversity is really something that's rather charming about his overall work. Personally though, I like the fact that he's virtually touched upon every type of music that I have the mildest interest in. It's not like I don't look at other artists as well for my music tastes, but Miyavi's work is generally so varied that you end up getting something for almost any type of music palette you could have. It's quite interesting like that. 3nodding

The first song of his I heard that I enjoyed was Jibun Kakumei-2003- because I liked the senseless destruction in the PV, the melody, and his blue hair. XD

That was the first song I heared of Miyavi too~
I mostly love his acoustic songs, or other songs where the focus is mostly on the music/his guitar-playing.

I've always loved his acoustic songs the most too! The concept of dokusou made me really happy. I really admire him as a guitarist, and I think that has come up stronger in the later releases just like his confidence in his own voice seems to have grown.

so, I've listened to some of the references mentioned in a miyavi facts post, and I guess this is the place to talk (alot) about them?

I took a listen to Keb'Mo' and I think that in some songs like Remain Silent and The Itch you can hear some of what miyavi's exploring in some of his more blues~y songs, but also, the intro to The Itch actually reminds me of señor señora señorita... the guitarplay is - in the songs I've heard at least - less complex than what Miyavi does on dokusou, but even so I kinda liked this.

but even though Keb'Mo isn't too far from what Miyavi is to me, Muddy Waters left me confused... I hear and acknowledge the blues sound in his music, but then the lyrics are all about how he wants all the pretty women for himself and how he's stalking down pretty girls he's seeing on the sidewalk, which is exactly the kind of things I hate. It's so annoying when they come after you... and for some reason it's always black men, but I probably shouldn't say that as a fact or somebody will say I'm a racist or something >.<
I can't deny it gets kind of funny though when you imagine miyavi listening to this, thinking 'wow.... this is so cool....'. I wonder if he's into stalking people down the streets too?
but I know he's the oldest of these three, from a different age sort of when men were, I dunno, supposed to act like this and women giggled and approved? oh well, it's bringing back bad memories for me, which might be why I'm bothering to care about it.

then I heard the intro to Keziah Jones song The Wisdom Behind the Smile (CA$H) and I went o.o he's got miyavi playing. I haven't analyzed miyavi's guitar on dokusou much, and really just failed to hear the funk in it! that's just a major negligence on my part... I liked Keziah Jones the most I think, though he sounds a little too happy for my usual musical preferences... a bit like a mellow Jamiraquai perhaps? I'm not too in with these scenes at all... but I think I could get the urge to listen to Keziah in a few days, I'm like that with new music. a bit slow. wtf I'm always slow... >.<

I'm also thinking about how all these people are black... is there a connection, or is it just that miyavi couldn't find any other good guitarists who weren't emo? am I wrong to even bring this up? oh well...

Yah, I would think this is the place to talk about them.

That's actually a rather insightful review you've made of those artists though. Hopefully one day I'll be able to pick up some music by Keb'Mo' and Keziah Jones to compare. It'd be interesting to see what the music Miyavi's been doing lately has been coming from. According to a friend of mine who went to one of the concerts during the 5 Day Live, Miyavi's skill as a performer and simply his entire ensemble was *incredibly* theatric, deep and beautiful. Due to privacy issues, I can't post her review of the concert here of course, but basically the concert itself was an "acoustic live" that was mixed in with some more traditional forms of performing arts. It'd be interesting to see if some of this also derives from these inspirations.

Your review of Muddy Waters though has left me somewhat disapointed and shocked, however. I suppose I may have to try some myself, but that does sound rather frightening.

yilei: nuh I wouldn't be too worried about it, I asked google about how they all looked and I mean, Muddy Waters looks like a genuine 50's blues artist. the man~
for some reason, I was under the impression that he was like the others, more modern, but I don't think so... maybe I should check it up properly some time. >.<
