Glossary of Pirate Words and PhrasesSo which pirate words/ phrases do you like the best and which ones do you use often? I don't really use much pirate lingo to be honest... I just 'Arrrrrr!' alot and use the word 'booty'. Lol. The phrases I like best are: Davy Jones' Locker -- The bottom of the sea Dead men tell no tales -- Standard pirate excuse for leaving no survivors. Feed the fish -- What you do when you are thrown into the sea, dead or alive. Jollyboat -- A small but happy craft, perhaps even one which is a little dinghy.

Aye, from what I understand being Keelhauled was an incredibly horrible torture, but usually wouldn't kill a man. At least that's what they say. Supposedly the worst thing to happen was being marrooned since you were left much like Jack Sparrow. Left to die. Personally there are a great many good pirate lingos out there, and I'd like to use all of them.

I've got a book called The Pirate Dictionary full of nautical lingo and information about pirates. I just opened it up at random, and that page included the origins of the words "fogey" and "footloose". xd Very strange book. I have a feeling that it's not entirely accurate or factual, as the editing in it doesn't seem too great, but it's fun anyway.

My favorite pirate-y phrase: "Savvy?"
Other piratical phrases to which I have taken:
"Scurvy dog!"
"Grog."
"Me hearties."

amakama eek Keelhauled? Whats that? It's on the page the first post linked to. "Punishment by dragging under the ship, from one side to the other. The victim of a keelhauling would be half-drowned, or worse, and lacerated by the barnacles that grew beneath the ship." Nasty, nasty, nasty. ...Anyone here read Mutiny on the Bounty? There was a lot of shipboard punishment in that!
