We've all heard the hype about things such as violance and sexual content in video games, now I'm looking for your opinions on it all... I can see why some people are against violance in games, but personally can't see many games being fun without it... I mean, even old Dsney games had violance in the sense of you went around killing "evil" things and beating up Pete as he took on all these wierd giant forms. (Anybody else remember that old SEGA Disney game where it was up to two player and you could play as Mickey or Donald, using both magic and melee attacks? You'd use a flying carpet to fly to the next levels if I remember correctly?) The sexual content I could see games without, to an extent... I mean, skimpy outfits are not necessary for female characters, (Characters such as Raine Sage, Aeris Gainsborough, and Freya Crescent are examples of well designed female characters wearing a full attire.) though they aren't ALWAYS bad, and sexual comments seem fine so long as they aren't overdone and are used appropriately for appropriately rated games... (Final Fantasy 9 just wouldn;t be the same without Zidane's perverted mind, and it's not liek it ever got him any more than a smacking.) Er... Yeah, so, what would your opinions on the subject matter be?

i think video games take it too far sometimes. Games like GTA, Manhunt, and Postal are just too much. Not that long ago I saw this kid start mouthing off to another kid, saying that he learned to talk like that from GTA. I used to love GTA, but it's just not fun going around murdering people and selling drugs and all that crap. Of course, you can;t bame video games for kids mouthing off like that or for violence in this world, but some of them can definitely be an influence. I don't see the point in games where you go around just brutalizing every poor person who happens to get in your way like in the game Manhunt. It's like playing through the horrors of the human race. I can't find anything fun about it. However, I also like violence in video games, just as long as it's fiction. Halo, for example. I can;t get enough of that game. That game has great characters, cool weapons, cool enviroments, excellent graphics, and an original story line. A war between humans and aliens is always fun. The game is very violent, but it's in a fantasy world with circumstances that can't happen. Same thing with Resident Evil. I love that game as well, and it's gorier than heck. But, like Halo, it's still fantasy and can't and won't ever happen.
Hmmm...I'm probably not making much sense. Oh well, I hope you see what I mean.

No, James, I totally know what you mean. True, game makers sometimes stretch it way too far. For example, Predator Concrete Jungle has a lot of violence and sexual images. Obviously you go around killing everyone, trying to find a certain drug dealer etc. One part is where you have to hunt down a Matador (a mexian guy that goes too far). He is being proteted by woman, woman that have been... porn ladies. The ladies aren't wearing any pants, and barely any clothes on whatsoever.
I like video games in the fact that they keep you entertained, duh, and that it can help make you think of ways, strategic ways (Halo!), to defeat your enemies.

Halo isn't actually impossible by any means. XP It's one of the better SciFi franchises in that it's scientifically sound, just incredibly unlikely. I suppose the flood are HORRENDOUSLY unlikely, but still slightly possible... Who knows what horrors and wonders may exist out there in the Universe.

That all depends on what you believe in, but from what we know right now, it definitely doesn't seem likely at all.
