This is the Debut album from Singer/Pianist Adrew Mcmahon. Andrew is also the lead singer and pianist of Something Corporate. The music differs quite a bit from both bands. Jack's Mannequin is more laid back California sound as opposed to Something Corporate's more harder sound. The whole album is a sort of story, having to deal with coming home from a long trip, and dealing with the loss of the love of your life. Also when I review a song or album I like to post what the song is about, that way people can furhter understand the sound of the song. So there is alot about the background or what the song is about. Sorry about that. xD;;
So without further ado here is "Everything In Transit."
Holiday From Real- A soft song with piano overtones and soft beats. The song is very catchy and is one of the more upbeat songs on the album. The song has sort of an irony twist in it. The beggining lyrics say, "She thinks i'm much to thin. She ask's me if i'm sick." The irony in it after recording the album Andrew was diognosed with lukemia, making the lyrics hauntingly true at the begging before he even knew he had it. The song all in all is pretty catchy, and it will have you singing along to the chorus in no time. All in all a top favorite song. 9/10.
The Mixed Tape- A harder sound then the previos song, this song is driven by piano and drums. The song is a sort of hardcore driven song with a gloomy/sad undertone. This is a song that is very beautifully written, BUT after hearing it alot of times on the Radio and it being played alot on Fuse it can get very repetitive. The song is great to hear once in a while, but it is not a stand out song. Probably my least favorite song on the album, yet its pretty good. 7/10
Bruised- The story a plane flight and the loss of the love of your life. The song is set in an airport where a couple have just broken up, yet they must fly away together one last time before going there own way. The protagnist is asking for a little more time so that he can fix what he done, but it is too late. The song is soft and piano driven with swift drum beats. The song is so powerful, it makes you feel like you are in the seat of the airplane wishing you could turn back time and fix everything. The song has an amazing breakdown toward the later mid section. The song will leave you feeling a bit dazed after it finishes, but the next song picks you up. This cd really makes you feel everything the protagnist is going through. 10/10
I'm Ready- The song is dealing with after the breakup. You see (hear) that the main character of the story is going on with his life. He lives life one day at a time. He has in a sense disconected himself from his emotions so that he is able to move on with life. The song is swift and has several parts that are written in prose where some parts are just plain spoken and have no rhyme. This song is a post breakup pop song, yet it is so well writen that it doesnt even seem like it. The song feels short and you can find yourself relating to what the singer is talking about. Not a standout track, but it has its moments. :3 8/10
La La Lie- The song starts out on a slowly playing accordion. The song is slow and sad. You feel the sorrow in the words of the singer. The chorus really stands out most of this song. It is dealing with the post breakup theme from the last song, yet the singer is saying his friends have helped him out alot through the phase. He is also remembring the old times he spent with his girlfriend and they are coming back to haunt him. The song makes you feel good to have friends who will support you. Another standout song. 9/10
Dark Blue-This was the last song recorded from the album. The song is about the months Andrew and his fiancee spent away from one another. The song has a '80's sound to it. With a synthesizer in the background. The song actually makes you feel the sense of water. It gives you eerily sound to it and it just makes you think of a giant flood washing away everything. All your sorrow, is washed away and you see all along that the one who loves you was there all along. It makes you feel good. The song is very romantic, yet very sad at the same time. An incridible sound from start to finish. 9/10
Miss Delaney- A song about a love triangle. The song dealing with the main Character in the story, a women named Miss Delaney and her boyfriend. The women kept her boyfriend a secret from the main character. The song sounds beach boy-ish, witch Andrew has stated was one of his main influences on the band and the album. All the songs have that California sound to them. The song all in all is pretty fast paced, yet it doesnt really stand out on the album. The song just sounds out of place on the album. It doesnt really grab your attention. It is just another song on the album compared to all the rest. 7/10
Kill The Messenger- Personally my favorite song from the album. The song starts out soft but it builds to a deep, heart felt song. The song has an amazing sound that no other song on the album has. The song is the darkest song on the album and a song about not telling a loved one how you felt while you still had the chance. The paino in this song sounds very slow and dreary and you get that feeling of lonelyness. A must hear for anyone who likes this kinda music. n__n 10/10
Rescued- Possibly the only real ballad on this song. This song sounds alot like Something Corporate's song. It is really soft song about a man dying in a plane crash, trying to get to his loved one. It is sad, but in the same sense it is really romantic. The sound is more focused on the other instruments then the piano on this song. There is more of an emphasis on music then the lyrics of this song. I could see this song being the love song for many teenage drama's. xD; 8/10
MFEO: Part 1- Made For Each Other, Part 2 - You Can Breathe- This song is one song, but it is broken into two different songs. :3 I will review each song seperately.
Part 1-Made For Each Other- Starting out with a really powerful piano solo, the song is more up-tempo then the next song to come. It is a somewhat pop feel good song. One of those song's you will find yourself singing along too at random times. I must admit the chorus is pretty damn catchy. Dx The song is pretty short but that doesnt mean it is not a good song. This song is really great and you will find yourself pushing "back" on your cd player over and over to hear it over and over. ^3^ 9/10
Part 2- You Can Breathe- This song starts a low note and a slowed down tempo. This song makes referances to the previous song "The Mixed Tape" from this album. The song complaments it by continuing one of the same phrases from the song. The song is focused more on drums more then anything, put the piano also sounds out. This is song that completes the story of the two lovers. The song being slow, it is longer the the previous one. The song being about the lovers meeting up and finally seeing that they do in fact belong together. They were made for each other. A ballad of some sort. It deals with finding ones self while finding your lover. 8/10
Into The Airwaves- This is the last song on the album. It has nothing to do with the story at all, but it does have to do with love. This song was a bonus track on all the albums. The song is light and poppy sounding. The song has a steady pace through all of it. Even the chorus follows great timing. The perfect way to end the album. All the instruments seem to come together into one great sounding harmony. It is like mixing two colors together and creating something completely new. That is how the music sounds. A unique sound on its own. 9/10
