I was just thinking about how after the attack, a whole day goes bye before Harry goes to Privet drive the next night... Do you think Hagrid brought him back to his hut, then to the Dursley's at night, or do you think he brought Harry straight there, but made stops along the way? Or Harry could've just been in the rubble for a while (not the whole time, obviously, but it would take up some time, seeing as how the trip probably the shortest one in the world... not saying it was super long either though...). Any thoughts about this?

How do we know how long Harry was at Godric's Hollow before he arrived at Privet Drive? I vaguely recall reading the account somewhere, but I can't think of where it was and would love to go back over it.

How do you know a whole day goes by before he brings Harry the next night?
I always thought it was immediate. Well all in the same day at least.

Lisette333 How do you know a whole day goes by before he brings Harry the next night? I always thought it was immediate. Well all in the same day at least. That is what I was getting at. I was under the impression that it was on the same night that Hagrid goes to get Harry. I recall something about Hagrid saying he got there before anyone else was able to poke around.

Found it!
I just finished reading a different novel and needed something to read before bed so thought I wouls start the series over again (for what must be the dozenth time). And sitting there nice and pretty in the first chapter of Philosopher's Stone is PART of the answer.
Page 16 in the Canadian hardcover release: "'No, sir - house was almost destroyed but I got him out all right before the Muggles started swarmin' around. He fell asleep as we was flyin' over Bristol.'"
So Hagrid did get Harry right after the house was destroyed/Voldemort left. I don't imagine it would take all that long for people to notice that a house was destroyed and start swarming. I doubt it was a silent scenario! It appears that it took Hagrid a full day to get from Godric's Hollow to Privet Drive, though. Mr. Dursley sees all the wizards in the street the day before. And the owls in the daylight and showers of shooting stars are all happening that same day too. That next night is when Hagrid brings Harry to Dumbledore at Privet Drive, approximately 24 hours after Voldemort's attack. This is assuming of course, that Voldemort went to the Potter's house during the evening/night time. I would imagine that this is true as even Voldemort wouldn't be so arrogant as to try to destroy such popular/powerful/influential wizards as the Potters in broad daylight.
Knowing that Hagrid is only allowed to perform minute amounts of magic (though I'm sure he was given some leniency in this situation), he probably doesn't know how to apparate so would have to make the journey to Godric's Hollow and then to Privet Drive the old-fashioned, physical way. (Thestral? Broomstick? Running really fast haha?) Then once he gets to Godric's Hollow he runs into Sirius who lends him the motorcycle that he flies to Privet Drive. I guess if Godric's Hollow were quite a good distance away, the trip might take a day. Recall that it took nearly the whole night for Ron, Fred, George, and Harry to fly the Ford Anglina from Privet Drive to the Burrow. If Godric's Hollow were further away, the trip could take some time.
So, my best guess for the timeframe between Voldemort's attack and Harry arriving at Privet Drive would be about 24 horus (give or take a few). In addition, it is completely possible that it could take that length of time for Hagrid to retrieve Harry and deliver him to the Dursley's front door.
I know there is another portion of this story revealed by Sirius in PoA ... but seeing as I just started PS again tonight, it will take me a little while to get to that part. I will update again once I get there, or if anyone wants to do the searching for me, I think it is near the end when Sirius is being questioned about that night ... possibly in the Sheiking Shack? I can't quite recall.

Well all in the same day at least. well, the first chapter is all about a regular day for vernon dursley, and he sees people tlaking about what happened with the potters... harry was brought that night and it sounds like everything they were talking about in the morning was the night before, or at least some time before...
